ElessarBarton
I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 with the following specs; - Intel Celeron 2.2GHz Processor - 512MB PC2100 DDR Memory - 40GB 4,200rpm Hard Drive - 24x CD-RW/DVD Combo Optical Drive - 15" XGA LCD Display and SiS 650 Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory - AC'97 Audio - v.92 56Kbps Modem, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11g Wireless PC Card - Three USB 2.0 Ports and One Type II PC Card Slot Im currently running Windows XP Home Edition. I'd like to add that my 512 MB of RAM is actually 448 MB seeing as how i alloted 64 MB to my shared/built-in graphics card. What do i need, and how do i install Mac OSX? I dont have an external hard drive or a USB drive large enough to hold the DVD image...oh and i have 24 GB left on my hard drive so i can easily partiotion 10-15 GB for Mac OSX. The big question is can i do a Dual Boot?

ElessarBarton
Well, i have that...can i install Mac OSX while im still running Windows XP? I was thinking i could possible use my GF's laptop and just have her download the DVD image and then i could connect our computers via USB-to-USB cable...if that is possible though, im not sure. I mean, worse case, i could always just ask my friend to burn the disc, but i hear that to upgrade to 10.4.4 i will need a USB drive or something? I just want to find out if i can dual boot. If i can, then great, if not, well, i'll go and back up what i have and hope for the best. I just updated my profile with my contact information for anyone willing to help me

Grav3Mind
well sadly the reason no one is replying is that a dual boot on the same hard drive with windows has yet to be done. infact theres a 10,000 or so dollar pot of cash to go to the first person who does it and shows proof so no one is going to help you for now. what i suggest is get a external HD and come back asking questions if you have problems lol. please correct me anyone if im wrong because most likely i am... lol
ElessarBarton
Hey, thanks for taking the time to at least reply...if dual boot isnt an option, can i get help with installing it from scratch? ElessarBarton
I was reading this thread and it seems dual booting IS possible...but im not a tech-minded person...i mess around until something works...and in this case, i cant do that. So if its at all possible, could someone IM me and give me a small walkthrough of what i'll need to do whe i install OSX?

gamephreaker
use fdisk in dos and make a partition
ElessarBarton
Im not very tech-minded, so i was just going to use Partition Magic (8?) and make a 6.6 GB partition. *Edit: Can i make the partition bigger? I read that if i say wanted a 10 GB partition for Mac OSX, i would need to make the partition in XP 17 GB...either way, my main thing is i NEED to dual boot, and i know there are things i have to do in XP before installing Mac OSX, i just doint know what they are...could really use some help.
