Which version of the OSx86 would be best for me and how would i go about installing it with a dual boot without loosing anything on this partition of winxp. I use the 250 gig as my main hdd the rest is all for backup.

Chances are good you will have problems. If you aren't familiar with a command-line prompt then you're just asking for trouble IMO. People here will help you but nobody is going to spoon-feed you every step of the way if you don't even know what questions to ask. What chipset is on that motherboard? What's your soundcard? What chipset does it use? What SATA chipset do you have? If you can't answer those questions easily by looking it up or opening up the computer to look then you are definitely asking for trouble. If you don't even understand the questions then you are getting in over your head.

Consider my story... I have been a programmer (at paying jobs) for 12 years. I have programmed for Windows, Linux, IBM mainframes and even did some OS/2 way back. I've programmed in MIPS assembly language for a few custom router firmware projects. I'm not trying to be arrogant here, just pointing out that when it comes to computers I'm no newb. Getting OSX up and running on my Dell Dimension desktop took me almost 2 weeks. I wound up burning 6 DVDs. I installed Kalyway, iATKOS and Leo4All. I installed Kalyway twice and eventually went back to Leo4All. It took me a week to get the sound working and another 3 days to get the graphics card running in hi-res mode. My Broadcom ethernet port still isn't working (I'm typing this over a Firewire cable hooked up to a laptop running Windows with ICS).

There is no "best" installation disc. You try one and when everything doesn't work right you try another one. Eventually you go back to the one that was "best" for you. There are a hundred other questions you will have. You may find 50 answers here that will help you. For the other 50 there is no substitute except to try it and see what happens.

I'm not trying to discourage you. But if you jump in you should figure out what you need to do in order to completely back up the main disk you use when you boot into Windows. Getting the bootloader to work right is very, very tricky if you want to dual boot. It's not that it's hard... it's just confusing because there are half a dozen ways to do it. If you have a full disk backup (including the MBR) then you can just restore your backup and you will not have lost anything. Actually, if I had a low level of knowledge I would seriously think about buying a new hard disk and swapping your main disk out completely so it will be safe.

You have 4 SATA disks? I don't think any of the distributions will support more than 2. I also think there are problems with the GeForce 6600 cards. I don't think SLI is supported at all. There may be problems with your motherboard. You can and should search the forums for more details but, quite frankly, for every informational post here there are 10 useless ones and finding good solid information and answers is hit or miss unless you're lucky enough to find someone with the exact same hardware as you have.

Good luck.

If you plan to ask, "How do I burn the install DVD?", then you should seriously consider finding another hobby. Ditto if you don't know what a disk MBR is off the top of your head.

Well I do know how to burn DVD's I have access to high end torrent sites Basic VB and very basic C++ knowledge I do know alot of baic things and more advanced. I just wanted to know which version would be least likely to cause problems and where I can find a list of code for diffrent errors.

There is no "best" disc. I agree you should try Leo4All first. There is really no single list of error codes. Make sure you back up your system disk first (or use a fresh one), get Leo4All, and install it. Read some of the howto's in the Tutorials section. They should be enough to get you started.

At least you know how and where to get the dvd iso's :P That's a good sign.
