Okay I ave a clean ISO of JaS 10.4.8 and the spec of my laptop is below :

AMD Turion 64 BIT CPU

120 GB SATA HDD

1 GB RAM

I have used Acronis Disk Director to partation the HDD and it is split :

80 GB to Win XP - Primary

20 GB to Mac OS X - Primary (Active)

I have set the Mac OS X Partition as Active

When I go through the Process of running the inital install, I get as far as the option to goto Disk Utility and all I can see is my DVD Drive.

I also don't have any options from what I can see in the BIOS to adjust the SATA drive at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am relatively new to all this.

Thanks

Robbie ;)

Im not very familiar with the JaS distro or SATA drives -but maybe I can shed some light.

As Sama said, first impressions are that its a SATA compatibilty issue. Dont give up -it doesnt meant that you cant get it to work.

Its always a good idea to give a fair bit of detail about you setup, it makes it easier to help. Look at my signature, you can add one if you go to the "My Controls" section -taht way it is automatically attached to any posts you make.

Regarding JaS. As I said Im not too familiar with it. Its quite old but very straightforward -I dont think it uses EFI to interface with you BIOS. That makes compatible with a much wider range of setups.

The fact that you drive isnt listed in the "install to" section of install implies: -that the installer cannot find your drive. So it sounds like a compatibility issue. the idea of altering you bios is so that the bios itself will handle transfer to and from you drive, rather than using an extra driver (or .kext) to translate things. Unfortunately most OEM computers a cut down BIOS with very few options.

Also regarding JaS, there are at least 3 JaS AMD INTEL ppf1 & ppf2 version floating around. At least one has been modified from the original. The ones that are correct were originally posted on demonoid (rip). Its hard to tell if you iso is OK, but the fact it boots at all is a good sign.

I have 2 suggestions, try XxX_10.4.11_ (got to use the Rev1 version ONLY) -it has very many options, but is rather confusing. It is much better when pached with ppf1 & ppf2 -but you need a working OS X install to do it. I have seen a lot of rumours that a whole new version of it will appear THIS WEEK that doesnt require patching (& may include 10.4.12).

Other suggestion is Leopard, although historically people say the tiger is easier to install personally I think that Leopard is far easier. Largely because of "KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1". I think that this is a very flexible installer. A success rate of 90% has been claimed. you might want to try that.

You should to find out which Hard disc controller you motherboard uses. Then could try installing the drivers for it when selecting install option from a disc. I would always suggest selecting nothing as a first try, see if it works without any extra drivers first.

Good luck -let us knw how you get on

I have essentially the same laptop and was able to get 10.4.10 to load, but it was by moving my HDD to an external case, loading it, and then after getting through the install, inserting a set of kexts which were modified(?) for the ATI SB600 chip set. I had to get a pcmcia wireless card (RA Link) for networking. All of that was fine except the video, ATI X1250, which will only yield 1024x768. I just don't have the time to tinker with settings or coding.
