Ok, so I just got a new HP Pavillion DV9000 series laptop (9700) and I've tried to install all versions of OSX86 I have (uphuck 10.4.9 through Leo4all v2 10.5.2) and all of them get the same error: they all freeze during half of the install and/or DVD file consistancy check (at 52% to b exact).

I've tried using the RAM modules I have seperately and in different slots, tried cleaning my samsung dvd burning drive with both cleaning discs I have (1 with fluid, 1 without). Next I'm up to disabling Sleep/C4 mode in my bios and trying to install and after that I'm considering returning the laptop for a checkup of my dvd drive (which works fine while watching an entire movie and installing games (WEPES2007) & apps etc).Unless of course some1 else has a better idea or solution?Thnx in advance 4 a reply.

Also: the different versions I've used are: 10.5.1 Kalyway, 10.5.2 Leo4all +Leo4allv2, 10.5.1 iatkos and 10.4.9 uphuck. Also I've used different dvd burners and have successfully installed the 10.5.2 Leo4all on my desktop pc.

Does it fail while verifying the DVD (before the actual) installing of the OS. If so, try to install, but while verifying the DVD select "Skip" (I think that is the button to stop the verifying of the DVD) then see if it will install. Personally, I have always skipped that first step of checking the DVD.

Edit: It is always a good practice to burn OS X disks at the slowest speed possible. There have been so many problems with the image unless it is burned at the slowest speed possible.

Thanks 4 your reply; it also stops in the middle while installing (without verifying). Also: most of the discs were burned at the lowest speed possible (4x including the Leo4all version). I usually skip that step too, but since I didn't want 2 format my osx partion every time while installing, I started using the dvd verifying step.

Just tried with my wireless switch off and my sleep/c4 mode off in bios, didnt have an effect either :( .

About the 4x speed: on my desktop pc it is, not on my laptop though (there its 3x). It doesn't lock up, I get an error that a package (the 'Mail' package with Leo4all, the 'Essentials' package with Toh's Leopard RC2 (released a loong time ago) and yet another 1 with uphuck's 10.4.9 that cant be found/verified) then it asks me to reboot & try again, I just did that with Toh's Leo RC2 but it doesn't boot then; I get the BUILD/release_I386 (or something) error (same I get when trying to boot into iAtkos's 10.5.1, which I haven't been able to do).

I won't settle 4 less than at least an install right now though.

shoot, I don't know.

The Leo4all version, is that the same one that you installed on your P4HT, computer. leo4all is suppose to be a really good distro.

How did you partition the leopard partition, guid or mbr? Was it formatted as Mac OS extended?

Edit: Another question, have you been able to get through the install process at all?

Not sure about your situation entirely. I actually had a problem on my MDD G4 when trying to install a 'back-up' copy of Leopard. It would lock-up at exactly the same percent every time.

I never tried another DVD, as I simply put the ISO on a dinky 20GB HDD that I had lying around and it worked perfectly.

Your situation sounds like something hardware related, but it's worth a shot if you haven't done that yet.

@dakine: yes, I tried that & several others (including the new Leo4allv2 (burned at 3x)) & I've never gotten past more than half an installation.

@Quackit: you formatted your hdd for mac & unpacked the iso on2 it or something??

Something along the same lines as Quackit;

You said that the uphuck 10.4.9 didn't work. Did you get the same type of errors during install? The reason I ask is, if your system has Tiger on it, you might be able to use a leopard flat image file, which basically is leopard already installed and you just copy the image over to your new partition.

I'm really grasping at straws though.

Sorry I can't be more help. Sounds like something with the DVD drive, maybe.

@dakine: Yep, got the same hang as with all Leopards (I'm sitting here now with about 15 different osx86 dvds (of which 14 leo), also tried burning with different software at lowest speeds and repeating the cleaning of my dvd burner (tsstcorp ts-l632n) and upgrading its firmware.

You just brought me on2 something though, do u think I could copy my OSX leo installation from my desktop pc to my laptop prepared osx partition (same kernel)? Think I'll give that a try 2morrow, so thanx! :D

I'm not sure, I kinda think not, because I think it needs to copy all the files including the hidden ones, and if your laptop is running windows while you are copying, I am almost sure won't work because windows doesn't see leopard stuff right. But then again, you might be able to do it with Macdrive installed in Windows, if Macdrive will see the partition AND allow you to write to it.

Using linux might work to copy your leopard image may work.

I really don't know enough about it though. I'll do a little research myself on it..

I just did a test of filesharing with vista and leopard. Using OSX's sharing might be a way to transfer files.

If you need some help setting up the sharing let me know, I've done it at it is pretty easy, just a little different than what you might expect.

I still think you are gonna need something like Macdrive to be able to have "Read" access to the HFS+ partition on the laptop, which may not even work since you haven't been able to complete the installation.

@dakine: It's true I haven't been able to complete install at all on my laptop, fortunately its different on my desktop. I tried an old philips dvd+rw and burned with imgburn on my laptop though, locked up as usual :P. Just thought: I have an external HD I'm gonna try installing from my dekstop on2 that and boot in2 it on my laptop & c what I can do then (fingers crossed)...

check if you have a setting for execute disable bit ... and make it enable in the bios...

otherwise it may be just your dvd image you download is damaged or burned at faster than 4x speeds... u should always burn 4x or less speed for osx dvds... also check md5's of isos you download... good luck...

@?Mysticus?: nope, don't have an option like that in my bios (have very few options in my laptop bios).

@dakine & Quackit: thanks 4 replying & thinking along with me & my problem. I returned my laptop to the store last sunday, so I really hope something positive is going to come out of that (I told them different versions of Linux, that I had burned at different speeds on different blank media with various dvd-burners on multiple pcs using several programs, always kept hanging at 52% during install on my laptop and that I needed to have Linux installed on it).

I'll keep u posted

Sorry for not getting back to you on the HDD thing. I'm lucky to even get the time to wake my computer from sleep these days.

When you open Disk Image it gives you the option of restoring a HDD with an image file. You simply select the HDD and choose restore... select the 'backup' OS X ISO and restore it. Yeah, you lose the remaining space on the HDD, and that's why I used a dinky 20GB I had lying around.

Obviously, you need a Mac to do this. Have any Mac buddies that live locally? -_- (or a really good friend at an Apple store... heh)

Hopefully it works out for you. Let us know if they find something wrong with the laptop. That'd be really interesting.
