agrafuese
After many months with AMD, I've finally decided to start building a new Intel system. I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible, so I'm trying to cut back anywhere I can. Right now I'm trying to figure out if a 430w PSU will be good enough for me. Overclocking is not important for me, but it would be nice to get a small boost later on when I feel like pushing it. But for now, stability is the most important thing for me. The system I'm planning on building is as follows: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel C2D E8400 3.0GHz NVIDIA 8800GT 512MB (no overclocking) 2GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 RAM ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU CPU FAN SEAGATE 250gb SATA2 16mb 7200rpm COOLER MASTER Centurion 534 Case (has 2x120mm fans) Any old DVD-R drive, not important. On my current AMD system, I am using an Antec TruePower 430w PSU, and I've never run into any problems with it. I could always test it out on my new system first before buying a new one, but I would like to buy all the parts at once to save on shipping Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! apowerr
Hmm, I mean I don't see that hardware exceeding 430W or anything, but long term I would buy a modern 500W or 550W PSU just to be safe. Search on "Extreme Power Supply Calculator" without the quotes and run your system through it I'd say you probably right on the edge I have a quad core overclocked and it was saying around 450-470 something like that depending on the capacitor aging and load numbers I used. I run my system on an Antec TP 550w without problems so I would say if you can afford it upgrade the power supply to something along those lines just to future proof as the above poster says maybe even a 600w one. agrafuese
Wow! That's a great tool, thanks. The system I plan on getting seems to be rated around 350w - 375w at very exaggerated settings, 100% load and 30% aging. According to the calculator, I can get a pretty nice OC out of a 430w PSU too. Still, I think you guys are right. Might be a good idea to go up a step. Besides, the price differences between a 430w TruePower and a 500w NeoHe are slim. Plus, the NeoHe is modular Thanks for the advice, and see you on the Intel side Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96733-is-a-430w-psu-enough/#findComment-691288 Share on other sites
