10.4.3 with JAS patch v.4.2b works on my Dell Inspiron 9400.

Graphics card identified as standard VGA but with instructions on this board, got it up to 1280x1024 - no wide screen. LAN and DVD worked. Did not try wireless or USB. Bluetooth and sound definitely do not work.

No change.

I did press F-12 when booting to change the initial booting device. In addition, when I got to the welcome screen, I went into Disk Utility, deleted the HDD partition and recreated new one. I read somewhere that using a partition with no space in the name is better so you can give that a try.

Make sure also that the MD5 checksum fits (in case you got a bad disc).

Other than that, my installation had been quite smooth so I am afraid I won't be much help on solving the waiting for root device problem.

I'm currently waiting for my 9400 laptop so i can't help you now but are you talking about the same model?

can you put your specs models here to compare? because they're a lot of configurations some with NVidia some other with ATI, some with 945G chipset and other with 945P, etc.

Thanks

I have personally given up installing the Mac on my 9400 for the time being.

There is no sound support because the new range of Duo laptops utilize Sigmatel 9200 High Definition Audio which is incompatable with the 10.4.3 AppleHDA kext.

Bluetooth and USB works fine though, you can also edit the plist to use 1280x1024 if you're using a GeForce 7800.

The main problem are the issues surrounding the bootable installations.

Myzar's ISO cannot use a bare-base kernel file, it also causes a kernel panic with multi-core mode enabled in the BIOS (Press F2 to go to the Inspiron 9400 BIOS)

The newer more compatable AMD/SSE2/SS3/nForce/VIA bootable ISO that has been floating around works with multi-core enabled and a base patch, but has other problems to do with faulty permissions on kext files, the ApplePS2Controller.kext for example.

So I'd really recommend waiting until there is a proper bootable disc with full sound support, otherwise you're probably going to get as frustrated as me
