ilikelmo25
I just received a tangerine iBook that wouldn't recognize boot devices. I diagnosed this problem as a failed hard drive. I replaced the hard drive with a working hard drive with Mac OS 9 on it. I wanted to upgrade it to Mac OS X using my Panther DVD. The internal optical drive in the iBook is a CD reader only and therefore, it can't read DVDs. I plugged in an external DVD drive and tried to boot from there. It started booting into the installer but then after a while, the Apple logo on the boot screen is replaced by a prohibitory sign. Picture: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1599/img0494fu4.jpg It's strange because I successfully installed Mac OS X 10.4 onto an indigo iBook using the same external DVD drive but Panther doesn't seem to work. Can someone give me some advice? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96396-cant-install-os-x-on-an-ibook-clamshell/ Share on other sites

Synaesthesia
Maybe it will work with firewire target disk mode, or you can try swapping the drives, installing os x on another ppc mac, then swapping them again...
