Hi all,

I've been working at getting osx86 on my desktop! Had a MSI K9N Platinum with AMD 64 x2 6000 but no go. would install ok on reboot - panics etc

Got myself a Asus P5K Pro M/B and Q6600 cpu. Added a 8600GT Vid card!

New install works right out of the box! did have a 6800 vid card but didnt play well. The 8600 uses CI/QE and a range of resolutions without fidling etc

CPU is using all 4 cores and system is stable as a rock.

Very impressed.

Vista on another drive, recognised the new system installed drivers and didnt miss a beat too. Thought that I would have to reinstall. but is stable as too.

I recommend the P5K Pro and 8600 Vid cards. (didnt have enough cash for a 8800 card) I've got a 1 gb card - only 256 recognised by osx though. Will work on that.

I used Leo4all, but have used Kalyway, Zephroth and Atkios - they are all good.

Got osx on my dell i6400 too! :-)

Cheers

I'm thrilled to be posting this from my fresh install of Kalyway 10.5.2 OSX86 on my P5K Pro. My hardware is an E8400, 2 GB DDR2-800 and an nvidia 7100GS video card.

Networking and video worked out of the box, but I haven't got sound working yet (I probably didn't select the right customization in the install). Weirdly, sleep works, but shutdown doesn't... but its early days. I'm assuming there are fixes for these things, but I haven't found them yet.

The P5K Pro was extremely easy for me to get Leopard running on. Follow the stuff in my sig and you should be good to go.

Anybody that's got the P5K Pro overclocked and working with Leopard though, can you tell me what you're BIOS settings are? I keep getting kernel panics everytime I overclock and boot up. This is during the initial bootstrap before getting to the GUI. If someone could help me with that, would appreciate it!

Thanks!

How to Overclock for MAC OS X P5K PRO:

In your BIOS go under ADVANCED--> JumperFree Configuration--> Ai Overclock Tuner (Set To Manual)

CPU Ratio Setting ---> 12.0 "Play with this number until you get the right ratio"

FSB Strap to North Bridge--> Auto

FSB Frequency--> 265 "Play with this number until you get the right frequency"

All other settings leave at AUTO

To figure out what your overclocked to take the CPU ratio x FSB frequency, in my case 12.0x265=3180Ghz or 3.1Ghz

You verify the clock speed by going into "About This Mac" and it should read the overclocked processor speed which in my case reads 3.19GHZ

That's it. Hope this helps.

My question for you: Did you use the vanilla kernel for your install or a different kernel? Does you time machine work? I'm using vanilla kernel and rarely have full system lockup and have to do a hard reboot and Time Machine doesn't work, it locks up the system as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nice thread! I installed using Ideneb 10.5.4 with mob kernel. I am running on stock settings, my shutdown and restart works, but not sleep. Time Machine works for me, I backup and retrieve file's daily.

On Xbench I get 139.72 :)

So here's the deal: I have theP5k Pro motherboard with latest BIOS. I have a Q6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz (if that makes any difference). I downloaded the Kalyway 10.5.1 ISO today and constantly got the "waiting on root device" error no matter what I tried. I popped in an IDE drive, I have AHCI enabled and everything. I'm currently downloading Leo4Allv3 and the Kalyway 10.5.3 upgrade dealie. It should be ready by tomorrow. What I want to know is: what should I do? Should I just try the Leo4all install and pray for mercy?

This reply is not from experience as I'm waiting for my parts to arrive. Since you haven't had a response in four days, I'll go out on a limb (corrections accepted) and suggest that you may want to try SATA HD and DVD drives.

BTW, I viewed backpackr's youtube videos and he made it look incredibly easy with the P5K Pro (I hope it really is). I've built many Windows based system and this didn't appear much more difficult. I'm ready for whatever glitches come, though.

Hello Everyone!

a Couple of weeks ago i got 10.5.5 retail working on Asus P5B-E using karaakehas tutorial plus reading 6 days in a row 20h a day everything i could regarding the installation.

Actually i got everything working almost rightaway but had usb issues which turned out to be probably because of a fried usb 1.0 so that usb legacy wouldnt work and the usb stick driver werent recignized along with usb mouse and keyboard.

Im recording an album and my macbookpros disk just cant handle the amout of audio tracks i have in couple of the songs.

So Im back at this again.

I got the ASUS P5K Pro today and all i had to do was to swap the board and the maintainance Volume harddrive booted nicely to kalyway 10.5.2

Currently im installing OSX retail to a brand new Sata 2 500gb seagate barracuda (SATA set to 3gb/s)

I wanted to get the Gigabyte GA-EP35 DS4R but currently its not available almost anywhere so i figured the P5K Pro would be close enought to the P5B-E to make installing a breeze.

I ask everyone who has previous experience with this board to share their knowledge here to match with the GIGABYTE-faction on this forum :(

Ill inform how the installation goes and when/if i get things working properly.

To YOKKEN!

get the kalyway 10.5.2 dvd plus the jmicron patch.

Then patch the dvd image and burn it to a dvd.

---ETHERNET FIX---

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry926901

The "Royco" fix.

LAN: This is only for rev. 2.0, rev. 3.3, or any revision that uses Yukon controller 8056. For those that have 8053 (rev 1.0), LAN works without modification. This how-to was written by Royco. If you find it helpful, be sure to thank him! =)

Open the terminal from /Applications/Utilities and type the following:

sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon2.kext/Contents/Info.plist

(find and change: <key>Yukon-88E8053</key>)

(to: <key>Yukon-88E8056</key>) <-- change "53" to "56"

(find and change: <string>0x436211AB</string>)

(to: <string>0x436411AB</string>) <-- change "62" to "64"

(find and change: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 Singleport Copper$</string>)

(to: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8056 Singleport Copper$</string>) <-- change "53" to "56"

Ctrl O <--- Thats letter O

Enter

Ctrl X

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Reboot.

After rebooting your LAN might not be working yet and showing up as disconnected. Do the following.

- Go to System Preferences, Click on the network icon.

- On the left pane select your ethernet, on the right pane where it says "Configure" select "off".

- Click apply.

- Now back to "Configure" select "Using DHCP". Click apply.

- Your LAN should be working by now.

TIME MACHINE PROBLEMS:

I tried the IONetworking.kexts thats been floating around. None worked

I had already my onboard yukon marvell ethernet working with a little tweak to the 10.5.5 IONetworkingFamily.kext and was pissed off by the only issues left being the Timemachine and Sleepmode not working.

I had the onboard ethernet as EN0 and ASUS WL-138G V2 Wi-fi PCI adapter (which i got today and worked right out the box) as EN1.

No dice. So switched onboard to EN1 and Wi-fi to EN0. Still no luck

The UUID 35 problem went away when i got the wireless as EN1 network device to accompany my ONboard ethernet EN0 ( TM didnt work yet though)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE OLD WAY OF MODIFYING SYSTEM DEVICES!!! EN0 to EN1 - vice versa etc...

If someones looking for how to switch EN0 and EN1 take note.

reboot

go to bios

Disable the onboard ethernet (if you have one) form the bios

then shutdown

and remove the PCI adapter (if you have one)

Then backup these 2 files from

VOLUME(name of your disk)/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.

NetworkInterfaces.plist

preferences.plist

to somewhere, on your desktop for instance.

then remove those 2 files from

Volume(name of your disk)/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Reboot ---> You got clean Network settings screen in system preferences (unless you have firewire stuff there aswell).

Now you can choose which of your network Devices gets to be EN0 (needed by Time Machine to identify the Backup Volumes using you ethernet MAC adress [someone could explain this] ) by rebooting and either enabling the preferred device from the BIOS

or shutting down and installing the PCI card first. which ever you do first get the EN0 spot.

-------------------------------------------------------------

MAKING TIME MACHINE WORK

What i did to make Time Machine work was to use EFI-Studio to add both GFX EFI string (had it already but added it again) and Ethernet EFI String to the com.apple.boot.plist. You have to generate both strings before "writing" (clicking the write to com.apple.boot.plist button) them to the com.apple.boot.plist.

BEWARE!!! ---> Your ethernet network adapter (EN0) has to work already inorder for you to make a working EFI string for it. I had already made the IONetworking-Tweak to get my Onboard LAN working.

If you make the Ethernet String without a working nic you´ll end up unable to boot.

Also if you have done EFI string for GFX earlier make it again at the same time with the ethernet so to that EFI studio writes the com.apple.boot.plist to have both the strings for GFX and Ethernet.

Now remember you have to copy the last section of code from the backup of your original preferences.plist to the new preferences.plist in order to you computer having a host name (the one you see on your "about this mac/ system profiler"

REBOOT

open timemachine choose NONE from backup menu. unmount & erase the future backup volume. Switch Time Machine On and then choose the backup volume. then wait for the count down. If you hurry and just click the Icon it will get interrupted before it started stating "backup volume not found " or somethign like that.

VOILA! IT WORKS!!! backing up as i speak!

Tried to make this NOOBproof. hope this helps someone.

Hey guys,

I have been pulling my hair out with my P5K pro install. Everything except LAN works out of the box (after flashing the bios) - which is great. LAN is proving frustrating. The version of the P5K Pro that I have comes with the Atheros l1 network controller (which I have used on many other osx86 installs using kalyway and then the Attansic drivers) - but no go getting it working.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or any suggestions?

Thanks bro, was looking for this driver! But my mic is not working :/ (only using this audio card for games (headset usage). Any fix available? Thnx!

The microfone in the MOBO backpanel works fine with the kexts so just tear the mic cable more apart from the headphonecable and your good to go.

Hi there,

I also was able to succesfully install IPC 10.5.6 on my P5k with a Q6600.

However I have an issue that is sending me crazy. I have searched all over the internet to find a solution bu no one seems to have my same issue (not conforting at all!).

I have a dual boot system with MAC OS X (updated to 10.5.8) and Windows VISTA X64 (Chameleon 2 RC2 works like a charm!). All works great (Shutdown and Restart is not a problem!). However Whenever I switch between the two OS, I have to go into the Bios and play with the following BIOS flag:

ACPI APIC support.

If I want to log into MAC OS X, I need to disable this option, otherwise MAC OS X won't load and will reboot soon after I try to boot it.

Unfortunately Vista has the same issue, only the other way around :thumbsup_anim:

It will not boot unless I Enable APCI APIC support. If i leave it disabled MAC OS X would work, but VISTA would not boot up!

Does anyone know (or guess) what can be wrong with my system?

Thanks to all for this magnificent forum!
