Hey,

I'm having problems with following this guide.

I get up to the part where I must boot into the Mac OS X Leopard installer (F8 then -v) but my PC reboots almost instantly. I recorded a video for you to see what I mean here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxVGzDnHyv4

Should I try a different approach to installing Leopard or continue with this one after fixing it? Has anyone else experienced this problem before and how do I solve it as it's seriously driving me crazy! I'm new to this but I also followed the instructions very carefully and precisely and all was good up until then so please help me!!!!

I've heard about Kalway...is it worth doing and is it as easy to do? I have no idea what i should do as I'm a beginner who really wants this on my laptop. I'm incredibly familiar with the Windows OS so know my bit about it and i know that my PC is SSE2 + SSE3 compatible. It's an Intel Celeron Laptop, 1GB RAM.

Help me please!

You didnt press F8?! ONLY ONCE!

Then it will go to a prompt line: type -v then ENTER

Your machine boots up, then it comes up with the "press any key to install BLAHBLAH or press F8 to enter setup options"(25sec in your movie)

PRESS F8 ONCE!! YOU DONT TYPE "F8" YOU PRESS the "function 8" key!!

it will then give you a prompt (flashing cursor), type -v and then ENTER, it will take you to verbose mode, where it will run a lot of files very fast and then start with the installation OR show you what is wrong!

Eek! Where do I type F8?

Sorry man, I'm new to this whole scene!

That's exactly what I did and it reboots a little after i press the F8 key.

I have no idea what could be wrong.

Your "F8" or function keys, are they not blue in colour? if the are remember you need to hold the blue function button down OR if your numlock is on the "F8" key wont work

I'm sorry to say but you have to do it in the 8 sec that it counts down, not before or after, IT HAS TO WORK, it works for thousands, there is no reason why not for you! Don't be too hasty 8seconds is long enough....

This is however your problem, according to your video!

I definitely pressed F8.Maybe I should download the ISO again? Do you know where I can find instructions to install on my Intel machine? The ones i was working from before are gone now and i dont know which to choose...Thanks

EDIT// Just tried on my other laptop and it's going a lot further (but i dont want to install it on that, as it's my families). It must be something to do with my specs? ^^^^^

My choices:

Kalyway

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=544482 find it on :)

then

Leo4ALL DVD

could not find it quickly just search and PM Eddie the originator for a link to the download

Sleeptime in the Swiss nighty, nite!

definitely try kalyway. I had same exact problem, but mine was on toshiba satellite a75-s231. With kalyway it gets much farther but u get still waitng for root device or a kernel panic. Definitely try kalyway, havent had any experience with leo4all, I'll look into it though, I'm on my iPhone so I'm limited to what I can do right now ;)

I've given up with iATKOS now...it's just too buggy and doesn't work on a lot of peoples machines. I'm trying to find rapidshare links for Kalyway because I don't really like the idea of waiting for over 1 year (seriously, that's what it says) for a download to finish. ;)

Please help me on my day off, guys! Or at least give me a link to a fast torrent download of this?

Cheers

EDIT: Okay it gets further but I get a ton of localhost errors or something, then it keeps repeating things over and over again... (After I've pressed F8, -v). I haven't actually reached the installer at all yet after trying non-stop and seeking help all over the web for 3 days - found nothing :(

Umm there is rapidshare links, but I would recomend paying for a premium account if possible, it would be MUCH MUCH faster. Without a premium acocunt you either have to wait 100minutes in between each download (and its 46 parts or something) or change your IP by unplugging your router for 30 seconds or using the command prompt

There are links here (33 .rar parts):

http://epam70.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/mac...sse3-incl-ppf1/

Or here (46 .iso parts):

http://loadingvault.com/link.php?s=kalyway....com&e=.iso

To join the iso's you will need a special program, there is one called FFSJ (Fast File Splitter Joiner)

You can find that here along with iATKOS .iso parts:

You really should try and learn how to use computers a bit more before you try OSx86.... some of the mistakes you're making are really very amateur. Suggest you play with setting up multi-boot windoze machines, linux etc, which are much more straightforward so you can learn a bit of computer operational skills. You need to understand why things work, and not just be able to follow instructions blindly...

I'm no computer noob, trust me.

I've dual-booted with windows many times and can do anything you throw at me on a Windows machine. I just need help with the whole Mac for Pc thing. All of the people here were noobs at this at one point in their life.

I'm very computer literate...

I tried searching for still waiting for root device and will post back soon.
