Firstly I'd just like to say what a wonderful forum this is.

Now on to business... This topic has been posted here for everyone. It is meant to be a resource for anyone who is thinking about buying new hardware to run Mac OS X x86. I would like anyone who counts themselves as a bit of a guru on the topic to post advice for others to read. The idea is that knowledgeable types submit their advice and people in need of advice choose what to accept.

Think of it this way: You are about to rush out and buy all new parts to put together the ultimate Mac OS X x86 box it is possible to build. What parts are you going to buy in order to achieve this? Think about things like: SATA, Core Image, Quartz Extreme, Multiple Monitors, Core Audio, USB, Firewire, Wireless, and... speed! As well as anything else that is difficult to get OSx86 to run.

Please list the following:

CPU: Manufacturer/Model/Type(Dual Core/Solo Core)/Clock Speed/Bus Speed/Cache/SSE2-SSE3 supported

MOTHERBOARD: Manufacturer/Model/Chipset/Features

GRAPHICS CARD: Manufacturer/Model/Features

SOUND CARD: Manufacturer/Model/Features

HARD DRIVE: Recommended Models/Manufacturers

DVD BURNER: Recommended Models/Manufacturers

Please also state what has been tested and any relevant test results.

I don't think anyone wants to copy information found in the Hardware Compatibility List of the OSx86 Project Wiki to this board. It would create two sources of information, probably both of them disjointed.

Click the Wiki link at the top of the page, and find the HCL you want.

CPU: Intel/Pentium D/Any the faster the better - 820,830,840,920,930,940

MOTHERBOARD: Intel/915gux,945gntlkr/both fully compatible/both have on board firewire (working)

GRAPHICS CARD: Built in Intel Graphics / fully compatible /easy second display with a $25 Add2 card

SOUND CARD: Built in/May need patched drivers/ input questionable

HARD DRIVE: SATA/The biggist and fastest you can afford

DVD BURNER: Pioneer 110/Fully compatable

Everything works !

If you are on a budget, look at my system config. About $400. The only reason I'm using the USB sound card is that the motherboard I got has a bad sound chip that gets static in the output, otherwise it was supported 100% (no FireWire, but that is no big deal to me).
