My Mac Mini doesn't have QE or CI either, but I can play games and watch DVDs.

Thus far, the only drawback is when I drop a new widget on the dashboard, it doesn't create a "ripple" effect.

I believe the main advantage of these graphics technologies are in certain kinds of video image processing, which a game can exploit for more FPS (I assume), and the OS generally doesn't care about.

Core Duo machines will always have QE and CI, at least judging from the current architecture, so there may be some graphical bells and whistles that only are seen on systems with this hardware.

Apple has shown it supports old hardware for 5 years until basically abandoning it altogether, so the reliance on QE and CI should not occur for at least 5 years, since they still are selling their remaining PPC based computers that lack this support (at least the Mac Mini).

I've found a Radeon driver from their web site, but don't know if it is available in Universal Binary yet. www.atitech.com I think is the place, just pick drivers, radeon, OS X, then there should be at least 2 things available - one is dated later and should run better.

I'm completely ignorant regarding openGL frameworks and whatever. I get 11 fps tops in WoW, and unsure these things would do better.

WoW asks for a video memory minimum 64m, recommended 128m, and the 9200 inside a Mini is 32m - really think getting WoW running at all is sort of pushing this semi-cheap computer too hard.

I'll have to check System Profile, I don't have that little doorstop on very much these days.

I guess the splash isn't the indication of QE, but rather the indication you have a decent video memory buffer...? When I saw Tiger demo'd, that was the first thing I tried to find out, how's the splash effect turned on.

My PC splashes, but it has a GMA 900 and I set BIOS to 64m+64m buffering. I can't tweak a Mini to more than the hardware 32m limit.

The slash in widgets is a coreimage effect. The 9200 radeon cant do it regardless of memory. Your mini should have quartz extreme though. Go to system profiler under the blue apple icon on the top left of your mac. then to about this mac. Then click graphics/displays. At the bottom of that list you should see Quartz Extreme: Supported If you dont then cut that screen and paste it here.
