hi all,

i know there are a few threads that mention my motherboard and installing Leopard, but i haven't been able to find anything that has cured the problems i've had in trying to get Leopard running on my system. So far, i've been attempting to install from the Kalyway 10.5.1 disc, but i get stuck at the "cannot find root device" error message anytime i boot from the disc. these are my system specs, so you all can know what i'm working with

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 (rev. 1.0)

Core2Duo e6300

3GB DDR2 800 RAM

160 GB SATA HDD (currently dual-booting Vista and XP, would like to add Leopard to a partition on here)

400GB SATA HDD

IDE DVD-ROM Drive

Now, i've read a few things about IDE drives giving people problems, but i've also read about others who haven't had any problems running the disk off IDE. I also have a USB DVD-RW drive (Plextor 740A?) but i've been unable to find a way to boot from it, even though the BIOS has an option of booting from "USB-CDROM".

So anyways, i've played with about everything i can think of, used 2 different downloads of the kalyway image, verified the discs, burned them at 2x speed, etc, and the disc doesn't seem to be the issue. I've also messed around with BIOS settings, turning ACHI settings on/off, and none of the configurations seems to make a difference.

If anyone has an idea as to what the problem is or has any suggestions i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks for taking the time to give this a read.

OK, I am gonna try and explain this from memory so bare with me....

Make sure your hard drives are plugged into the two top orange SATA ports. Your DVD should be plugged into IDE1.

If you go into BIOS there there 3 spots where you can set AHCI.

You want the first two settings to be AHCI, the third should be IDE.

You should be able to boot and do the install. After the install you will get a com.apple.boot.plist can't be found. Go back into BIOS and set that third setting to AHCI.

Should you need to boot back from the DVD you will need to change that 3rd setting to IDE again. Its a pain, but it works. I have three SATA drives all recognized as Intel AHCI plus a DVD-RW in IDE1.
