Intel DQ965gf Installation Tutorial with Kalyway release

Unplug all unecessary usb hub and other hard disk..

Use sata Drive and hard disk and video card (mine is 7600 GT)

In the BIOS set to nothing but optimized defaults (use the last bios from intel website)

Boot from Kalyway dvd,

Open Disk Utility format the disk with guid,

Open terminal and flag the second partition of your disk (until it's write unused, this is the most important and strange to me as i don't need this step with others boards i tried)

let me show you the dump from terminal (in bold the commands you type, your id will probably be "disk0", check it with the command : " diskutil list ")

bash-3.2# fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

Enter 'help' for information

fdisk: 1> p

Disk: /dev/rdisk0 geometry: 19457/255/63 [312581808 sectors]

Offset: 0 Signature: 0xAA55

Starting Ending

#: id cyl hd sec - cyl hd sec [ start - size]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: EE 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [ 1 - 312581807] <Unknown ID>

2: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused

3: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused

4: 00 0 0 0 - 0 0 0 [ 0 - 0] unused

fdisk: 1> f 2

Partition 2 marked active.

fdisk:*1> w

Device could not be accessed exclusively.

A reboot will be needed for changes to take effect. OK? [n] y

Writing MBR at offset 0.

fdisk: 1> q

Install : select vanilla kernel efi guid bootloader your video driver

Reboot your hard disk (F10 just before the end of the bios screen to select your boot device) then F8 to get the darwin bootloader and type vanilla -v -f at the prompt

As there is not ethernet driver for the Intel 82566DM controller i use a pci card D-Link 528T with modded realtekR1000.kext and modded AppleHDA.kext for Sigmatel STAC9227 Audio

Download:

Archive.zip

Everything working and perfect Wake & Sleep, Reboot, Shutdown (with Apple Keyboard)

You can set to AHCI on the next reboot update to 10.5.2

see this link for a retail dvd install Intel DQ965gf

Thank's to all

Oke i have a DG965WH motherboard with a x1950xtx graphics card, this weekend i will receive a sata disk where i can play around with. i will try the thing you mentiond an post my results. The only differ of our mobo's is the chipset Q965 for you and G965 for me. I only can find that the q965 has AMT (Active Management Technology) the G965 hasn't got that function. Good morning,

I've tried to boot the kalyway and iatkos dvd's. BIOS defaults loaded, one new sata drive connected to port 0. bios default is raid so i didn't changed that. after some loading the wel known "still waiting for root device" is displayed. Am I seeing some thing over the head, in dutch thats the way we call it. Am I missing something ?

edit; i think i need a S-ata dvd drive maybe that will do good, I'm also tired of those big flat ata kabels !

Hello,

What where those hurdles ? And on what config are you running osx ? like which dvd drive( sata/pata ) and SATA or PATA hard drive and in which master/ slave config ? maybe nice to know. I'm still not past the sill waiting for warning. Next week i will put some time in it and maybe i buy an other dvd drive

I'm using kalyway 10.5.1 and I was getting the still waiting for root device myself. You have to use a video card that is compatible. Check out the wiki for a list of compatible cards. I got the nvidia 6200. I also had to use a sata dvd and hard drive. Once I got those setup, everything else went exactly as aliab says.

I used master for both dvd and hard drive. I loaded the optimized settings in bios and also upgraded to the latest bios from the intel website. Good luck with your setup.

Do you know which brand/type of sata dvd drive ? I use an ati x1950xtx video drive i think that isn't the prob.

Its a compusa brand multi format dual layer dvd burner. I'm not sure if it really matters what brand it is. http://wiki.osx86project.org/ for a list of compatible components. They dont list dvd drives so whatever you have is probably fine. I was even able to use an ide drive that I connected to an ide-sata converter.

Double check your video card to make sure you have one that works.

Oke progress !!

I'm past waiting for root device ! finaly. I've bought a sata dvd drive and only when that is connected to sata port 0 the booting continud. so dvd port 0 hd port 1. Now i'm strugling with the boot, first b0 error then blinking cursor, so i burned gparted on dvd and playing with it right now. Today i installed a xserve of a friend of mine in a data center so i'm so willing to work this becuase the xserve is so nice, srry off topic.

Hate to see this bumped to top for a thank you - but... THANK YOU!!!

The AppleHD driver the the 965 is schweet. Been looking for this for quite awhile (OK, only a couple of dayz). After many years being "PC Only" (and getting quite bored after 30 years in the biz) Hackintosh has become my new obsession. Tons more interesting than putting XP/D965 boxes in Law Office...

First post here - been lurking for awhile.

Thanks again...

Rick
