Hey just wondering if it is possible to transfer my entire contents from my imac to my x86 system.

I want to use the extra processing power of my quad core hackintosh to complete a few projects.

Re-installing everything is not really an option (I would have done that already).

I am interested if I can just replace certain kext files etc to make it work. Do applications on mac bind themeselves to network card MAC id's? like physical addresses etc?

Im basically trying to use all my registered software on a gruntier system but still keep my beloved imac - until I can afford a 8 core mac pro :(

Thanks for help.

Here's what I did. My iMac drive was badly fragmented, so I actually Carbon Copied it, erased it, installed XxX 10.4.11 on it, and then restored the Carbon Copy, and then reinstalled XxX 10.4.11 on it. That worked pretty much flawlessly, though, I think Photoshop 10.0.1 need to be reactivated.

It might work to just install OSX over the iMac drive, but I think the EFI translation stuff requires a hidden partition to be created.

Yes there is a hidden partition. I forgot to mention how do I create it?

I plugged in both drives (osx kalyway that works and new drive containing time machine restored drive from imac) and did a comparison in vista.

I tried carbon copying the kalyway install but the (hidden) EFI partition does not get copied. Any way to do this?

I cannot view what is on the partition under windows, unless there is a way. I have a registered copy of disk director from acronis if that helps.

I just keep wasting 3 hours a day trying to clone, restore etc so It would be cool to get it to work.

Thanks.

Just let Kalyway create the hidden partition, use Carbon Copy to restore the iMac contents onto the non hidden partition, and then reinstall Kalyway.

so is the kalyway installer non-destructive? Will I still have all my applications or do I need to reinstall them all again after running kalyway?

I don't know. I do know the XxX 10.4.11 installer isn't destructive--I've reinstalled it 20 times or so with all the applications and data sitting on the drive. The other problem is the Carbon Copy restore is destructive, but you could choose not to copy everything, and then skip the second Kalyway install.

Try the files and method in this thread to install EFI you will want them on a drive other than the one you are installing too as the drive needs to be unmount to do it, this works for me every time I want to clone my install to my external drive for testing new options. You could probably use this while directly cloning your install using diskutil but you would need to know which .kext you need to change/remove to do it this way.
