Getting iTunes to play the music off my NTFS partition

I'm looking for that functionality ... I want to have all the songs from my NTFS partition listed under iTunes, and put into categories, without having duplicates ? Any ideas anyone ? I remember seing a post about this, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks everybody.

Later edit: this sounds highly unlikely to work but ... can I get the Album Artwork to display properly in any way ?

Thanks.

In the iTunes menu, go to Preferences. Click the Advanced tab.

Uncheck the box that says "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library.

Then when you import a folder from the NTFS partition, it will play from that partition without copying the files over the the mac partition.

good question... I also have the same setup-playing mp3s off my NTFS partition.

Does anyone know about that (I never had the urge to use iTunes before my hack-Mac...)

Does it store album art in the same folder it tries to copy music to? and will it do it with the music somewhere else? Obviously it can't go through my ID3 tags and try to fix broken stuff (and royally {censored} me off like Windows Media Player tries to) with my actual music on a read-only NTFS partition.

Anyone? Anyone? .... Bueller? :hysterical:

The library is a pretty big XML database, and it could keep album art in there, but I believe in order to support the iPods that can display album art, the artwork IS stored with the song as an ID3 tag of some sort.

Easiest way to check is look at the file size of a song in your library (use spotlight to find where it lives) and then look at the size post adding album art.
