Enabling QE/CI on GeForce 8600M GT or any 8xxx card

Well, I tried out Photo Booth, and it gave me an error saying "My GFX Card was not supported" (but the GeForce 8600M GT cards are equipped with the latest MacBook Pros)

I asked here on the forums and they said it was something related to "QE/CI" and I had to enable it.

What is it? And is it possible on 8xxx series cards?

And how do I do it?

If anyone can take their time to help me here directly, it'll be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

You need the developer tools installed. (should really install the whole thing as you might need the other tools that come with what you need for this)

You run Quartz Debug and enable it in the menu at the top. If you quit the program and run it again... and it's back to being disabled... simply enable it and then Force-Quit the app. It will remain enabled.

Also, I'm sure that there is a script that you could run that would do this.. but the dev tools are worth having. Lots of goodies in there.

If you run QD and it shows that QE is already enabled, then I've no idea what to tell ya there.

[EDIT] I just realized something. If you're asking this question then the first thing I should ask is if you installed the 10.5.2 kexts for 8x00 support. You really shouldn't have to use QD to 'enable' the QE. It should just auto-magicaly enable itself if the proper drivers are installed.

indeed, i run into the same problem afer updating to 10.5.3.. i used gfx efi string for my notebook 8600 gt 512 mb, resolution and detection of the card was perfect, but i had to install all the 10.5.2 kexts and openglframework from nvinject package to get qe back.. but did have to remove my nvinject.kext because of the efi string.
