kalyway
Hey guys. After asking LOADS of questions here (sorry ) I finally managed to get kalyway installed and get it dual-booted with Windows Vista on my Aspire 5920G. I thank all of you here on the InsanelyMac forums for helping me through this. ----- If one of you would spend a little time helping me with these following questions it'd be greatly appreciated. 1. I need help with changing my resolution. It's capped at 1024x768 when it's supposed to be 1280x800. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (used in MacBook Pros.) 2. I also need help with Sound. I don't think it's working... however the sound "jogger control" on the side of my laptop is supported and shows a little window which just disappears in a few seconds. I can't change the volume with that "jogger control", it's just stuck on full. (I have Realtek High Definition Audio, don't think it's ac97.) 3. WLAN or LAN. I have an Intel 3945BG for WLAN and Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet for LAN. (any would be HIGHLY appreciated.) Thanks a lot, teh_pwnerer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89565-successfully-installed-and-dual-booting-kalyway-with-windows-vista/ Share on other sites
kae
Hi. I just installed Vista on my 2nd partition, but when trying to activate my 1st partition again (Kalyway) I get an HFS+ partition error. Did you install Vista first and then Kalyway ? MBR or GUID ? kalyway
hey kae vista NEEDS to be installed on your 1st partition. once installed, create a partition (as big as you want) and set it as active. reboot with the kalyway disc. DON'T START INSTALLATION. go to disk utility. the partition you made should be there. format it as Mac OS X (Journaled). then start installation with your customization. glad to help one thing, don't want to be rude, but if you want to ask another question, just post a new topic, since this topic is for my help thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89565-successfully-installed-and-dual-booting-kalyway-with-windows-vista/#findComment-638962 Share on other sites

BrumBrum74
Did you try this for you NVidia card: http://nvinject.free.fr/files/NVinjectGo.0...b_installer.zip If it´s not a 512mb card find the right one for your card here: http://nvinject.free.fr/downloads.php Your wlan card will not work. I would suggest you replace it with a Dell 1490 card if possible. Adhemar
anyone? please? For your video card, use the package found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=65849. It lets you choose the right amount of memory for your card and installs the needed kexts for you. Easy as pie. kalyway
thanks, got that. ok i got another problem now lol. Leopard is installed on a 10gig partition. I soon realized 10gb isn't enough since I'm going to install a lot of software soon. so i decided to expand the partition but with no success. I tried everything. gparted doesn't let me extend (the up/down arrows are shaded in grey) diskpart gives me an error saying i haven't chosen a volume and disk management gives me the same thing as gparted. arrows are in grey. i tried SHRINKING the windows partition to create space for leopard but also with no success. anyone know a solution? thanks! Sounds like you initially formatted your mac partion as MBR, which means it's size cannot be changed, your stuck with it. It is possible, although messy, to make another HFS+ partition and use it for loading programs and data onto. The alternative is to delete the mac partition, resize the windows partition and then re-install Leopard. You might want to use GUID this time because it allows resizing of a mac partition (there's a lengthy thread on GUID here somewhere) As for you sound, do a search for "AppleHDAPatcherv1.20.app", I think a link might be in the genius bar somewhere. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89565-successfully-installed-and-dual-booting-kalyway-with-windows-vista/#findComment-639271 Share on other sites

MAX711
thanks.yep its MBR. im lazy... lol... can u tell me the steps for the "messy" way? Just shrink your Windows partition using "compmgmt.msc" in windows, then use gParted to format the empty space as HFS+, or you might be able to do it with DistUtility in Leopard directly. Give the volume a meaningful name and everytime you install a mac program just make sure you put it on the new volume so you don't run out of space. I created a FAT32 partition for my data, that way Vista and OSX can both access the files on there. I have all my iTunes music on there so no matter what system I'm in, I'm accessing the same database. Same goes for Word documents, bookmarks, email, etc, etc. It's also handy for backups because all you do is copy your entire Data partition to another drive or removable media. amb7247
also, if you need to format a partition as fat32. The easiest program to do it is called fat32format.exe Just place it in the C:\ go to command prompt and go to C:\. Make not if the drive you wish to format or reformat as fat32. Look in Computer management and in the disc section shows unallocated partitions and which drives are set to active. Make not of the letter that is on that partition. So if your partition is E that you wish for format as fat 32 type in fat32format E:\ and it'll ask you if you Y or N hit yes and your done. thanks a lot dude.hey is there any way i can show the mac partition in My Computer?best way I know of to do that teh-pwnerer is a program called MacDrive for windows.
