This is what I am building - i'll see if the new 45nm quad-core will come out in the next couple weeks if not I will go ahead with this system.

The Apple IRDA Board w/cable 922-7318 is a USB IR reciever. What other people have done is to solder on a usb connector and then just plug it in. Works without any drivers is my understanding.
