CowboyMiller
ok Ive got Leopard 10.5.2 installed on a my Gateway M-6816 and question is, i can buy 4 gig RAM chips for it which would put 8gigs in the machine, WILL leopard use it? Or is it restricted to 4gig? Gateway says that XP only supports 3gig in 32bit or 4gig in 64bit..or is it restricted by the logic board its self? I would like to upgrade it to 8gigs and since they make a 4 gig chip for it, i techicly can put 8gigs in it...Any thoughts? here are the specs from gateway. Im still working on getting the wireless working along with the Audio and Power saving settings. Xosx86
To me 4GB of ram is more than most people could use, (overkill) The Mac Pro can take up to 32GB of ram! So good luck maxing out leopard. I think the only question is hardware not software. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89314-max-ram/#findComment-637097 Share on other sites
Superhai
I think your motherboard in your laptop will restrict how much memory. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89314-max-ram/#findComment-637100 Share on other sites
mtotho
vista 64 and xp64 dont see only 4gb.. they see as much as you can fit on the board. 32bit operating systems are cappped at 2.25gb. Leopard can have 32gb for sure.. i assume up to 64gb and beyond ram. CowboyMiller
do you think the mother board will restrict it to 4gigs? its got two slots and they make a 4gig chip....and no, for what i do, 8gigs is not over kill....and if the motherboard doesnt restrit it, ill be getting 8gigs... Jean-Philippe
Are you planning on sending a satellite over the moon using you laptop anytime soon? Anyway. Your chipset probably won't manage it. Read the documentation. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89314-max-ram/#findComment-637227 Share on other sites
CowboyMiller
actually, creating a RAM drive is handy and if you use VMware to install Windows on a 4gig RAM drive, its pretty sweet, then again, i never turn my computer off..lol we will see how it works....
