TorqueX86
Hello folks, I'm finishing off my second G5 case mod. This time I made a much cleaner and neater one, but I just realised that the front panel is not the same that came with the older case. This one apparently mates with the original G5 logic board. Not a big deal, can solder some wires to the contact and interface them to the motherboard, but does anyone actually know a pinout for this new front panel? This one attaches itself on top of the logic board, and I presume the pinout is different. aqua-mac
Never saw that front panel before! Can you take a closer shot from the very top. Is that the main connector plug at the top. Just wondering if it has 8 connections (or 6, 2 are not used on mac pro) or 6 connections. I can only assume this is from a later model G5. I was planning to recycle the old well known panel from the old case, but that won't fit. The G5 is indeed the very latest model, the one that comes with a rather large built in antenna for WiFi. TorqueX86
Here are the pictures of the rear connector... This is gonna be hard (-.-)' I'll provide a pinout too as soon as I figure out which contact is which... Any chance to have a service manual from Apple with the pinout? shadow-
So... did anyone ever get this to work? It's the late 2005 model quad G5 and I couldn't find a pinout anywhere. Good news is: Only two pins missing :-) Maybe someone can fill in the blanks. This is what I got so far: 01 02 03 04 05 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 Audio USB Firewire Button/LED unknown 01: Audio Left 02: Audio GND 03: Audio Right 04: ??? 05: FIREWIRE GND (double) 06: USB VCC (+5V) 07: GND 08: GND 09: FIREWIRE TPB- 10: FIREWIRE TPB+ 11: LED 12: Firewire FW802C IC VDDA (+3.3V) 13: ??? 14: GND 15: FIREWIRE VCC (double) (+12V) 16: GND 17: USB D- 18: USB D+ 19: GND 20: FIREWIRE TPA- 21: FIREWIRE TPA+ 22: BUTTON My numbering might seem a little odd, but 5 and 15 are actually double width contact pads. Just use my pinout from above - everything except Firewire works. To get this to work you'll have to directly connect your wiring to the soldering pins of the Fw jack. TorqueX86
I confirm that by attaching a cable directly to the female firewire port works more than fine. *Update on the rig* I have added a gutted 6 ports FW800 hub inside the case, to which I have attached all the FW400 and FW800 ports of my case, and then directed them to the FW800 internal PCIe card. This way in the future I can use also a motherboard without onboard Firewire and enjoy max connectivity Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88856-g5-latest-model-front-panel-pinout/#findComment-1306550 Share on other sites

Helianthus
How you even detach this thing from the case without damaging it?
