malak
hi all ! would it be possible to use 10.4.4 ATI drivers with an AGP X1600 instead of the PCI-E version (the one these drivers are actually made for) obviously to get full acceleration (QE+CI+GL) ? i mean, using X1000 kext + GL frameworks + modded AppleI386PCI.kext ? anyway if you think that's "sort of realistic" or "totally impossible", technical explanations are welcomed ! cyrana
Well, the 10.4.4 drivers are meant for the specific firmware that the new Macs have. So, I find it rather doubtful, as the normal PC ones will have a different firmware, and then AGP makes it a bit different as well (although possibly just in the device ID anyway). malak
Well, the 10.4.4 drivers are meant for the specific firmware that the new Macs have. Actually some people were able to use them with 10.4.3 8F1111 with standard x1600 pci-e and bios : http://www.win2osx.net/forum/showpost.php?...696&postcount=4 So i thought it would be also possible for AGP x1600 with some tweaks. Any ideas or experiences ? munky
i can also confirm X1800XL PCI-E gives full CI/QE/OpenGL on 10.4.3 using the 10.4.4 frameworks and kexts. my take on it is that it would likely work, but I cant guarantee anything. if possible, get the card from somewhere you know wont mind you returning it if it doesnt work. check the returns policy etc before you buy. Could you please explain a bit more? I thought that it was on ppc macs, but intel ones still using different bios? Are you sure? munky
cyrana is mistaken here. tho the iMac Core Duo's X1600 has a different firmware to normal PC X1600 cards, it IS possible to use the 10.4.4 kexts and frameworks to get acceleration (Core Image, Quartz Extreme and OpenGL) under 10.4.3 8F1111g. for instructions on how to do it, check here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...pic=6969&st=360 i can confirm this definitely works because i'm running CI/QE/OpenGL accelerated on an X1800XL PCI-E. if you're waiting to see if this works for AGP before purchasing, either ask around for anyone using an AGP X1000-series card successfully, or buy it from somewhere with a lenient returns policy. im confident it should work, but i cannot guarantee it. Louse76
I would also like to know if anyone can get the x1600pro AGP card to work in this context. I am tempted to purchase it. It seems that it would lessen the issues with trying to get my ATI 9550 to work... wouldn't it?
