bitninja
Has anyone successfully installed the Kalyway release on the P6N SLI-FI chipset? If so how did you do it? I'm in the process of obtaining it and if it isn't going to work I just want to know ahead of time. Thanks in advance, bitninja Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88097-kalyway-msi-p6n-sli-fi/ Share on other sites
n----
Yes, i have! I installed it with the "-v" boot switch, and installed the "nforcekernel" and "forcedeth" packages, when had the option to customize. After that on the 1st reboot i used the "nforcekernel" boot switch, and when i had a working finder environment i edited the "com.apple.Boot.plist" file and changed the kernel from "mach_kernel" to "nforcekernel" (and saved). It works like a charm except that some subsystems freeze (except for the window server and the keyboard, oddly enough) after a while (at the same time) for no apparent reason (mouse, CDROM, HDD) and i have to do a cold reboot. I have installed the OSX to my rig and my mobo is a MSI P6N SLi Platinum. For me, the only version that works is the iATKOS R3 - with equate1 + badbios patch. It´s known that MSI mobos has badbios ans some versions just can´t be installed. You need to look after one version that supports nForce chipsets. Just take a look at the forum created by Mysticus and dig it with a lot of attenttion and you may got a the solution for your problems. I hope I´d help you. C ya there. Mysticus C*
I am running a MSI P6N Platinum Core 2 Quad Q6600 all four cores work DDR800 2GB my issue was the lan wasnt working so i got a compatible nic now my usb doesnt work after boot wont detect new devices. Trying to figure it out but everything else works great. I am using Kalyway Install 10.5.2 try this DOWNLOAD if you used kalyway with default settings... use the above installer with default settings... in short you have/may have two troubles... problem is caused by wrong (non matched) system kext and kernel versions, but also can be caused by pcgenusb2 driver as well, read on... 1) by default kalyway installs 9.2.0 kernel with 9.2.2 system.kext (problem #1--non matched versions) 2) by default kalyway installs pcgenusb2 driver which is only needed on some old systems or non standard bios mobos,laptops... this breaks working ones and causes funny poblems... solution? know your kernel version (terminal== uname -a command will show it or use system profiler/sotware section) and check your system.kext version, from the info.plist of the file) and run the installer and install it with default settings (check customize window as well) if you installed kalyway using default settings... meaning you have 9.2.0 kernel, and pcgenusb2 installed... this will definitely fix it... good luck... The Sauce
Hey guys, I've got everything working on my P6N SLI plat except the internet, when I try th rt8139 driver, it recognizes the card, but it assigns it's own IP address which really stinks since it doesn't connect. Also, Mysticus, I've tried to update to 1053 and 1054 numerous times, but before I get to replace the kexts and stuff, my machine gets the faded grey screen and I can't do anything other than reboot and then get the Boot Loop and have to reinstall a fresh Kaly. Any tips??? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88097-kalyway-msi-p6n-sli-fi/#findComment-877479 Share on other sites

Any tips??? For RTL8139........not fully compatible with Leopard......even Sonnet Technology use RTL8169 for Gigabit Ethernet on Leopard.......but if you want to try find a solution then see this thread.... Clarify what you mean by "faded grey screen"...... what error messages are you getting when booting with -v -f after each update install?....... bitninja
Wow it's been a while since I made this post...the Kalyway release I had downloaded when I started this thread didn't work for me. I tried for literally a day to get the thing to work. It was 10.5.1 though, and I haven't tried with any version since. I'm thinking about trying again with either the newest Kalyway or the iATKOS like was suggested above. I have a MacBook Pro and I just love the thing...I sooooo want OS X on my desktop. cfmjohn
Well I've just completed an install on the MSI p6n Platinum SLI. iAtkos 4i & iDeneb wont work properly. Iatkos wont boot and ideneb crashes during install. The only thing I can get to work is Kallyway 10.5.2 using nforcekernel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88097-kalyway-msi-p6n-sli-fi/#findComment-918748 Share on other sites
bitninja
What boot options did you use? I just got Kaly 10.5.2 and I've used just about every combination of nforcekernel -v -f -x cpus=1 at boot - it just stops doing what it's doing when it lists the Darwin Kernel Version or something like that. I have the same MB and i'm having problems. Kalyway installs but doesn't boot. It reboots during startup. I have been trying "-v -x cpus=1 legacy" but it hasn't helped. acidd22
This MOBO may need a modded DSDT in BIOS......see here......or here...... I'd love to get a modded BIOS, but the P6N SLI-FI is a different BIOS than the P6N SLI Platinum. I need a BIOS that is 7350v21 through v26. Also, are there instructions on modding a ROM? I could take a stab at it if no one wants to mod it. bitninja
Yeah it does need a modded BIOS to work correctly. I wouldn't even know where to begin to do that myself...haha. I gave up on using Kalyway. I can install and boot with iDeneb, but the problem is without cpus=1 it will restart mid-way through the boot sequence. So I can only use one core. A BIOS mod would fix this, as it is related to ACPI/APIC somehow I think. acidd22
Have you all tried using DSDT Patcher....... I'd love to, but you have to compile it in Mac OS, and i haven't been able to boot into MacOS or even get to the installation program using Kalyway 10.5.2. The furthest i can get is to install kalyway 10.5.1, but can't boot into it. bitninja, did you see our board is included on the compatibility list on this page: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.2#MSI he goes back to bios v2.2. it didn't work for me... auDiBLe_aGeNT
I realize that you guys are referring to the MSI P6N SLI-FI rather than the MSI P6N SLI (not sure of the difference). I have the latter, and had success installing the Kalyway 10.5.2 using the nvidia kernel. Maybe this will help, maybe not.
