ok, im really lost here. (as im not a computer guy) heres my situation. i downloaded the zephyroth iso that is 4.37GB. now this is the part im stuck on. im guessing i have to burn it as a 'Bootable' dvd but i tried nero and that wont let me as 2gb is the biggest it will let me, and i have also tried magiciso and that is the same, on letting me do burn under 2gb. :S is there another way i could burn it but it still being bootable?

sigh... An ".iso" file is a disk image - it's used to take ALL of the thousands of files that make up the installation disk and pack them into ONE "easy to transfer" file. When YOU get it, you need to "unpack" that image and get all those files back onto a DVD.

Nero will do that easily. Even if YOU don't know how, Nero does. That's why "ken_max04" said above "just double click the .iso file you have". If Nero is installed properly, doing that will start Nero AND have it in the proper "mode" to recreate and burn the original DVD. All you have to do is have a blank DVD in the drive and push the "Burn" button...

BUT, it's easy to do yourself if you already have Nero OPEN. FORGET the "disc burning wizard"! PRESS CANCEL. At the main Nero Burning ROM screen, choose OPEN (not New)! Select your .iso file! It'll know how to burn the DVD - let it.

Your " but i tried nero and that wont let me as 2gb is the biggest it will let me, ... " is an entirely different discussion - that has little-to-nothing to do with your ".iso" disk image and EVERYTHING to do with the differences in the ISO and UDF formats for burning a DVD...

hi, i have a second problem now, when i burn the dvd it says its burning the full 4.37gb but when its all done i check whats actually on it and its only got about 5 files all called boot something (nothing like whats displayed in the downloaded iso). so when i try and boot off it it starts up saying 'loading darwin' (or something to that effect) but then retsarts and boots back into windows xp. All i guess is that the boot files that are burnt onto the dvd are right, but the burn software isnt backing it up with the actual leopard file. ive tried it in 2 burning programs, nero express and magiciso and both only burn the 5 or 6 "boot type programs.

thanks

it wont boot, it says 'loading darwin' then the little spinning things goes for a bit then the whole thing restarts and boots back into windows. i tried pressing F8 when it asks and it gives me the option to start in Leopard.10.5.2.amd so i press enter and it just does the same, spinny thing, then restarts into xp. :/ what am i doin wrong?

@Tommy P: First thing, Welcome to the forums ;) second, post your specs...and try burning the iso image with imgburn it's free and powerful, burn it at x4 on a good DVD+R media. All my zephyroth iso's are burned on dvd+r, -r gives me boot errors

Well, that probably means you burned the DVD correctly - it's booting off the DVD AND trying to run the Darwin bootloader.

It's more likely that OSx86 doesn't like your hardware. As DoiX said above: you're going to need to list all your hardware specs - the more info the better. And what installation DVD did you finally end up with? Zephyroth? Which version? (10.5.1, 10.5.2v1, 10.5.2v2?)

right im not that high up on computers but ill give it my best shot.AMD quad 95504gb ramAsrock NF7 motherboard250gb sataII hddnforce 7050 256mb graphicsthe version im using is 10.5.2 (i would assume its v1)if theres anything else i could mention please ask. if it is that zephyroth doesnt like my setup, would there be a version that does?also i forgot to mention, the burnt dvd (the one that does try to boot) only says it is 486kb in size when Zphy is 4.37gb. is that also because windows wont read the osx files or is that because the burning process didnt work right, even though ive used 2 different programs and 3 different attempts and got the same result.

You're using a PHENOM quad core? No wonder!

I couldn't use any dist. that uses an EFI v8 bootloader. And, you NEED to get the Chameleon EFI for Phenom processors. That's the easiest way to make it all work. I had best results with Zephyroth 10.5.1 (which actually installed and ran on my Phenom 9550 setup - see specs below). After I installed the Chameleon EFI, I was able to update that install to 10.5.3, the 9.3 modbin kernel, and the latest smbios. I'm typing on it now...

If your motherboard BIOS had the option, enable AHCI on your SATA drives.

My phenom:

- onboard RTL8111C gigabit LAN

- onboard RTL889a sound codec

- onboard 1394a
