Hey guys, I'm new to this. First, my specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz (SSE2/3 compatible)

ASUS P5VD2-VM SE Motherboard

VIA P4M900 Chipset

2048 MB DDR2

Now, as the title suggests, when I boot from the OS X disc, I get the 'Still Waiting for ROOT Device' error. Above which, it mentions something about VIAATA. Please help :)

You need the SATA VIA drivers. Some guy found out he just needed a couple of lines in viaata kext but I don't know what, where and how... I need them too :-/Oh, here's the link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...9&hl=P4M900The network card works too. Drivers from: http://www.pinxue.net/mac/viarhine-rel.tar.gz

The trouble isn't installability; I need to install to a SATA drive... I don't have a spare ATA around so I can't use ATA. I dd'ed the ISO to a SATA-in-usb-enclosure, and will put the SATA drive in the hackintosh when I edited the viaata.kext drivers as the topic starter did. Kalyway installer boots fine, but doesn't find any drives.. so sata is not detected. However, I can't find viaata anyway?

Fix:

You need Device 0x53731106 added in the VIAATA kext. The best way: Get an enclosure, hook everything up via usb.

After installation, edit the kext by hand, reboot and see SATA work in the System Profiler. If you can't add/edit kexts on your install dvd, you can also just buy a simple ATA DVD drive.
