Hey, My names Shaun I have used my PC before for a Hackintosh build but havent bothered to make a complete native boot of just OSX

I was wondering,

If I am going to be using a Firewire interface, Music and Video editing whats the best setup for me?

I mean it needs enough power but I'm not looking to spend 1.6kGBP on a Mac thats going ot be out of date.

So I need something cheap, easy and powerful.

My worst nightmare care with my old Mac Install before the NF4 patches where not out, mines a rare breed of board NF4 Ultra SLI edition and required some tweeking for everything. So I'm looking for one with probably close to the intel chipset that Apple use for the Macs.

Can anyone help me? Also the reason I'm asking for peoples input is because the HCL isnt very informative for 10.5.2.

Thanks again IM goers

Greetings,

Its nice to see another musician among the community. I assume you already know what you're doing with Leopard and 10.5.2, EFI, GUID and all that crazy stuff. If not, it might be quite a journey ahead of you.

Here's what I got working, rock solid and excellent:

10.5 ToH (update to 10.5.1)

EFIV8 and GUID

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Great for DDR2 - DDR3 and 45nm Intel CPU) not to mention it supports all other Core2Duos and Quads.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz (The E6750 is faster and cheaper, but I can only vouch for the E6600 because I actually have it.)

Any SATA HD and quality RAM

See my sig and the rest is easy.

For Audio - Firewire 410 with the 10.4.10 driver works decently well in leopard. Haven't tried 10.5.2 with it though. 10.5.1 is good however.

I use Korg MicroKontrol and Axiom 61, Keystation 88es, UC16, UC33e controllers all are USB compliant, no drivers needed.

M-Audio does have USB keyboard controller support drivers now.

Logic 8.0.1 runs as good as it does on a MAC Pro (bugs and all.......unfortunately)

Most plugs like linplug and izotope run well.

Reason 4.0.1 Runs excellent

Hope this helps

Cheers

Nicccccce,

I was a strict Cubase guy untill I used started using Logic and Sonar, Sonar suprised me as it was from Cakewalk XD

Neways, I have no clue about EFI only that its an Extensible Firmware Interface and by your signature GUID is a partition table XD.

Im going with the presonus Firepod/stuido/FP10 for the interface.

I have 2x7600's SLi'd in this machine so I might aswell use one in this new one.

I have spare 500/250GB sata's.

So what is EFI V8 and GUID I've seen a few posts about these.

Thanks

As long as presonus has leopard drivers, you'll be good there. As far as EFI and GUID........oh my, this thread can get detailed beyond any musician's time. However, look up the good man Netkas at his site, netkas.org and go from there. His forum has more specific instruction on installing EFI. Also, IRC is a good place to get the files necessary for this function. This information is also at his site.

Good luck on your journey and perhaps soon you'll be the one helping another at the same stage you are in now.

Cheers
