-aKy-
if your processor is sse2, then thats the problem. nothing you can do against it, you will always have to boot with the adapter connected. after its up you can disconnect the adapter. SticMAC™
I have a HP nx7010 SSE2 notebook, it uses a ATI radeon Mobility 9200 for which I use the following driver: Radeon9200pack.dmg, if you google it you should find it, if not pm me with e-mail An added bonus if you read the readme file, is that it adds some power management abilities that give you the option of choosing between settings for POWER or BATTERY it also talks about FAN control and it adds the battery/power icon to the menubar! Maybe you can extrat the power management install to and remove the ati part and use the rest as my machine starts not connected to power ! SticMAN see the readme file: Extras: Provides Basic Power Management (Battery Meter) for laptops. To turn off sleep options in the System Preferences of the Energy Saver pane for both Battery and Power Adapter options OR your machine will crash every 10 minutes while idleing. In your laptop's BIOS if you have anything called INTEL SPEEDSTEP TECHNOLOGY turn this option off. It will only slow down OSx86. This has to due with cycling a Celeron/Mobile processor and UNIX or OSX hates it. It works ok for Windows. The Mac side does not like it. If your dock is behaving very SLOWLY. This processor option has been turned on if your BIOS. I have had the BIOS turn it on all by itself to keep an eye on it. Also in BIOS: Keep fan always ON while on AC power should be turned disabled. OS X does not know what do with it and your fan will do the opposite what it says and could overheat your computer or fry your lap. If you never want to have kids and blow up your laptop then this feature is for you. IAmOrion
Hi, Many thianks for the reply's ... @ aky: what does SSE2 have to do with it? im curious now lol My chip is an Intel Core Duo T2350, which is MMX, SSE, SSE2 & SSE3 1.87ghz - so ok there's no fix, but can you tell me why it is? id just ike to know now @ sticMAN: i already have the power stuff, with icon at top, cputhermal.kext removed & my bios has no features i can change, apart from boot order and time / date lol - My dock etc are perfectly fine Only glitch for me still is my GMA 945 / 950 mouse tears every so often, and ive tried about 3 / diff solutions and i just end up with either just blue screen, or a white pin stripped screen lol - had to revert back to original Oh - im using iAtkos R2 btw Thank you J Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86082-wont-boot-from-battery/#findComment-612297 Share on other sites
SticMAC™
maybe this is something to look into? tha80
Hi, I got exactly the same problem with my notebook, a sony vaio sz5xwn, core2duo, gma950, phoenix bios. I also share your mouse tearing problem in firefox and some other applications (office 2008, adobe stuff, ...). Last but not least I got some additional problem. My touchpad worked only very basicly after installation, no tapping and so on. So I installed the alps-package (I think exchanging the ApplePS2Controller). Now my touchpad and tapping works, but from time to time the pad seems to "hang". I need to release my finger from the pad (for example when moving something) and put it back on the pad to respond again. If someone knows how to help, please do so Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86082-wont-boot-from-battery/#findComment-612352 Share on other sites
abrasive8
i have the same issues with my vaio n130g, no boot without a/c (hangs on the grey apple), and the mouse behaves strangely mainly whenever there are highlighted text-editing fields. On the contrary. my touchpad works well. i never hassled with drivers for it, and i cant confirm, but it seems that after i installed a logitech control center app for my wireless mouse a "trackpad" tab appeared in the mouse & keyboard settings allowing me to enable tapping. i would also appreciate a remedy for this power adapter problem. always booting it while plugged in seems to defeat a crucial function of the computer. EDIT: after more investigation, my touchpad's tapping features are enabled after sleeping the computer and waking it up after a fresh reboot. i dont know if this is helpful to anyone else- but its my remedy, and only marginally annoying as i use an external mouse most of the time. My Leopard (Kalway) has a similar problem, but here are some things I have noticed: If I boot into Windows first, then restart, I can boot Leopard fine. It isn't a solution, but it is a workaround. Better than having to plug in your laptop every time you start OS X. Of course, this only helps if you happen to be running a dual boot system. Success also seems to vary according to how long the computer has been turned off. Strange. ***ALSO, in response to -aKy- : I have an SSE2 system, and I am able to get OS X to boot on battery under certain circumstances, so that can't be the cause of the problem. minus_273
keep an ubuntu disk in the drive. let it boot to the install menu, hit ctr+alt+del and OSX will boot fine. the problem is with cold boot(probably a power management iissue) warm boot works fine. keep an ubuntu disk in the drive. let it boot to the install menu, hit ctr+alt+del and OSX will boot fine. the problem is with cold boot(probably a power management iissue) warm boot works fine. mianos
where is the #kernel channel gone on irc.osx86.hu? I have here an older (Fujitsu Lifebook p7120) sub-notebook (sse2-only) with tiger 10.4.11 and 8.9.1 kernel. BIG PROBLEM: Booting on battery fails/freezes. Disabling SpeedStepping in BIOS-Menu does not help . Is there a solution for booting without AC-Power on SSE2-Only Setups, if disabling-speedstepping in BIOS doesn't help? Thx for a short answer. Except for that the notebook runs fine Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86082-wont-boot-from-battery/#findComment-1173112 Share on other sites
bamdad
i have the exact same problem. i'm on a thinkpad t42 (sse2 only, but supports enhanced power management). i have the exact same problem. i'm on tiger btw (yes, i said tiger), since my mobility radeon 7500 does not work in newer os's. i'll try disabling speedstepping in the bios, maybe it'll help me. leopard (xxx 10.5.6) ran much colder, and it didn't have the fan draining my battery and almost always, but hey, QE is essential in os x. is there some workaround beside keeping an ubuntu flash drive ready? thanks, bamdad anyaway, i found out that disabling speedstep _does_ enable you to cold boot. will report my findings if there are any.
