noodpope Posted February 5, 2008 Share Posted February 5, 2008 I have an atheros AR5212 a/b/g mini-PCI card, and after trying the most common Atheros method of using the 10.4.5 IO80211 kext and everything, and now my network preferences show an AirPort option, but it is permanently turned off. Clicking the turn on button does nothing, and I havent found a solution yet. I'm using the new AMD Leopard 10.5.1, ToH kernel /wireless vendor id is 168c /device id is 0013 so where do i go from here? noodpope Posted February 5, 2008 Author Share Posted February 5, 2008 thanks, man. i broke something else and decided to just reinstall leopard entirely. so i tried this kext, i installed the kext and everything, repaired permissions etc, and AirPort shows up in networking preferences, but always off now. clicking turn on airport does nothing at all. also, i dunno if this is related but, my ethernet also shows up and apparently always thinks the cable is unplugged. SmurfBiterJay Posted February 5, 2008 Share Posted February 5, 2008 hmm that's weird, mine fired right up, i've used that same kext for a couple different installs. i did notice on the latest install, it didn't work right away, i was setting up the system for GUID, gave me all sorts of troubles. After everything was installed, the kext worked as it had on past installs after a couple boots. noodpope Posted February 6, 2008 Author Share Posted February 6, 2008 i got my ethernet working fine (unrelated subject entirely), and none of the other solutions from the various tutorials and posts that i've seen around here are working for my wireless. using the kext from SmurfBiterJay gets it recognized and the menu bar icon shows up, but always "AirPort: not configured" also, fun fact: when booted into the leopard install disc, my wireless shows up in the menu bar, and can scan for wireless networks (but not connect), which is infinitely better than what i've gotten once it's installed. is it possible i might be able to copy a kext off my install dvd (similar to the ApplePS2Controller.kext fix for laptop keyboards)? noodpope Posted February 6, 2008 Author Share Posted February 6, 2008 also i don't know if this is normal or whatever, but in system profiler under AirPort Card, it shows that its an AirPort Extreme and all, but followed by the vendor id and device id (168c, 1012), and that device id is nowhere near mine. I don't know if thats just a result of pretending its an AirPort Extreme or am I missing a configuration somewhere that's giving it this value. Also I thought i needed a bump.
