qplumb
Hi all,I have a 400 g3 imac that my daughter uses with latest firmware and running tiger 10 4.11 I've bought on ebay a dead 600 g3 question is can I just swap the daughter board, boot, and carry on or do I need to adjust anything?Sorry for sounding a bit stupid, new to os x but been using Linux for years,as microshaft don't suit as I'm sure you'll agree. Caslon
You have to verify that the logic board you have is the same revision as the 600's. They have different voltages and power needs. Just so you don't blow the working board. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85399-imac/#findComment-624123 Share on other sites
PPZ
They have same voltages, but they don't have CPU on same place, so you will have to make modification on cooler. You will have to unscrew cooling plate after you take out motherboard (it's small tetragonal piece of aluminium, about 2x2cm) and to move it to the place your new mobo's CPU is.Beware that if you are fitting 600MHz board instead of 400MHz, CPU is lower profile, so you will need to make some thin extra aluminium plate, about 3mm, to compensate distance between the CPU and cooler. I have done same thing on Imac G3/300 , replaced with logic board G3/500.Works over a year now without problem...
