Microsoft + Yahoo Merger

So I've just heard news that Microsoft plans on acquiring Yahoo for $44.6 billion. This could be one of the biggest mergers of all time. This could be good for Windows since things like the interoperability of Office applications could be greatly improved using Yahoo. Microsoft could even merge some Office functionality directly into Yahoo Mail, and that would be just great. Although more focus seems to be on the internet advertising market competition between Microsoft and Google. Whatever the case, I just hope improving Windows doesn't become one of Microsoft's lesser priorities.

So what do you think the possibilities are if this merger goes through?

...And wouldn't you know it, people are already imagining the ups and downs of the merger:

Yahoo Mail will be interchangeable with Outlook, er Windows Mail. Meaning you don't have to go to Yahoo to get your email or you don't have to start up Mail if your on Yahoo.com.

(Don't know if that's already possible. Never used anything other than Yahoo Mail.)

Naturally, arch-nemesis-Google isn't going to just sit around and let this whole Microsoft+Yahoo business go unnoticed. It would be... un-Google-like of them to NOT try to intervene using the tried-and-true premise of "antitrust". If I had five bucks for every time I heard the words "Microsoft" and "antitrust" in the same sentence I'd have enough to buy HALF a Mac Pro!! JK;) Anyways, is it just me, or does this whole thing that Microsoft and Google have going on seem a bit... immature? "Yew hav sebenty-billon poicent of the -Paid Advertising Market-... no fairrrr!! But if yuu an Yahoo combine fworces, yu'll be waay bigger than us!! Yu'll be fat, an yu'll hog everything!! ...So wat? *sniff**sniff* I h8chuu!! I h8chuu too!!"

That was the impression I got after reading Ballmer's talk with Google (more or less):

Well, it turns out that all the hype has ended, and Yahoo has officially rejected Microsoft's 44.6 billion dollar offer, claiming that it is not a fair price for what the company is worth or something to that effect. Anyways, it looks like there won't be any big changes now that there's no merger. I was kinda hoping that Yahoo would accept cuz' I'd love to see how that would have turned out.Though I can't say for sure if this whole matter is entirely over yet, so cross your fingers people.

Like I said, it's not over yet: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,142382-c...ns/article.html

Well, it's becoming pretty evident now that Microsoft acquiring Yahoo is just not prudent from a business perspective among others, seeing as how Microsoft's stock has plummeted considerably after news broke out of its attempted acquisition of Yahoo.

Microsoft truly should consider pulling out, because as of now, Yahoo seems to be a bit too far out of reach for Microsoft:

You can already do that. Just google it!
