the_demon
Hello fellow members of the form, Either reality as we know it is somehow warped or I have discovered an Apple Store that does not sell MAC OS X installation disk(s). Correct me if I am wrong but my logic follows as such: Statement 1: Apple stores sell only Apple products Statement 2: A Macintosh (OS X) operating system is an Apple product Conclusion: An Apple store should sell OS X operating systems Qualification: A Macintosh operating system (software) is not a Macintosh computer (software + hardware) The “help desk” personnel and a manager both stated that Apple stores do not sell install disks (DVDs or CDs) for Tiger or Leopard. Instead they tried to sell me a MAC Mini for $600. What_the_funk, call me a newbie or what not but, can such disks be bought legally? It’s almost as if they want people to turn to piracy! I would have bought Leopard server just for the sake of trying out a MAC. Being that I wish to stay open minded about operating systems. Ironically, piracy was the only feasible option left. I had planned to use VMware with a pirated iso (pirated data = unsafe for MBR by my opinion). It would seem that the iso image has missing data. I receive the errors shown in this picture below regardless of ‘platform=X86PC’ ‘-f’ parameters: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6218/apple4at3.png Perhaps the iso image is corrupt? iATKOS_v1.0i.iso SHA-1: 1A78E4706E644A90A1F85490AC0222DE62A73B2C Haval:B78AC0620D080258BD286046CA5EAC4088FE5A9D3089169FF6D6BD6F4A429E85 RipeMD-160: 230ABAB7171E6C829F19D77F9CA9E6620A9E44C0 Can someone kindly enlighten me to what I am doing wrong here? I am assuming at least one person has a semi working “hackentosh”. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84588-what_the_funk/ Share on other sites
Colonel
Uhm... I dunno which planet you have been on for the past 7 years, but Apple does sell copies of OS X in their stores... not for vanilla PCs, but for 867MHz G4 Macs or faster. the_demon
Well then its official, I found an Apple store full of [censored]s. To heck with “not for vanilla PCs”, I will make an iso image and patch it if need be. This is assuming a rig in which specific “compatible” hardware fails in the first place. And then PearPC or Qemu, well one can guess what happens next. However, there is something I would like to point out here: When a paying customer (with cash) specifically explains that he has the capability to run a MAC (not necessarily Leopard), out of social necessity needs a MAC to maintain some social connections and they deny that they sell said MAC operating system, this is called discrimination. At least I tried to use the operating system legally with out have to fork over 500+ dollars for another rig. Yup, apple store clerks (I refuse to call those people geniuses) are the biggest morons on this planet and have no idea about customer service, IMO. the_demon
Thankyou for all of your kind words and support. Normally I would post info (including name) on the bad torrent but, I do believe that is against the rules. Much to my dismay, a certain situtation has become...complicated. But that is a post for a different catagory. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84588-what_the_funk/#findComment-601597 Share on other sites
Danyel
Hi the_demon: From listening to various Mac PodCasts (MacCast, Mac OS Ken, Mac GeekGab, etc): The main issue facing real Mac users is that Apple does not sell Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) anymore. This can be a problem with those with older hardware -or- those in business and education who have standardized on Tiger. Apple should at least have the option of buying Tiger for those who want it. Otherwise, people will have to resort to piracy and other means. --danyel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84588-what_the_funk/#findComment-602032 Share on other sites
