Let me start by saying that my track record with Hackintoshs has not been good. I tried to install it on my 20GB, 6 year old Dell Inspiron 8200 with an 1.6ghz processor and a Geforce 4 440 Go Graphics card, and the result was not good. I eventually had to format because of the unsupported nature of my computer’s hardware.

But then I got an HP Compaq 6910p (p is for professional ), which was supposedly the most amazing and advanced laptop the world had ever seen. It sported a 2.2ghz Santa Roza Core 2 Duo processor, 90gb hard disk, 2gb of ram 128mb of x2300 ATI Radion goodness and not to mention; fingerprint scanner. Here’s a list of the hardware.

2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo Santa Roza

2GB Ram (1Gb was added by me)

90GB Hard Disk

Windows Vista (It, unfortunately, came coupled with Vista, but after several days of hunting for drivers, I rectified that situation with an old copy of Windows XP Pro)

Intel 82566MM Ethernet Card

Intel Wireless 4965AGN

ATI Radion x2300 128mb Graphics Card

Intel AD1981HD Audio

S-Video Out Not going to bother

3 x USB Ports All working 100%

Bluetooth This works, thankfully

1 x Firewire Port Working!

1 x Mow-dem (something to do with grass I think)

DVD RW Drive Working fine

1 x PCMIA card slot Now working using some random drivers!

Fingerprint scanner Not going to bother

SD Card reader I might try to fix this later

That’s about it. I think

Now, out of the above specs, how many would you think would work? 50%? 75%? 100%?

Well you’d be wrong. The first time I installed by Jas 10.4.8 Mac OS X with Titan ATI drivers, it gave me a black screen and restarted. So I reinstalled with no Titan drivers and it worked on the Mac default ones. So at that stage, 0% worked.

But then I was in, and I quickly saw how dire my situation was. I had XP installed, which was one thing, but I hadn’t planned ahead and made a shared hard drive Fat32 partition for them both to access, so transferring stuff was a pain. And that was important, since very little worked and research needed to be done.

I have two networks I can use, my school wireless and my home Ethernet. However, at this stage, neither my Ethernet nor my wireless were working. QED, I had to use Windows to do all my Mac research on drivers, which led to stupid switching between operating systems.

I eventually upgraded to 10.4.10 so I could install iWork and other useful programs, but once I had installed it, something came back to haunt me and it didn’t work. Probably something to do with the graphics.

On top of that, the sound didn’t work. But after some serious sifting through the forum, I found a tutorial that allowed me to get the sound working (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=18642, believe me, it works). Then another problem hit: the mute button on my HP button strip thing kept flashing on, meaning the speakers turned off, even when I didn’t press it.

And that’s where I am now, with sound that works occasionally, no internet and no way to do my school work. I’m posting this on XP, and I hope that my toils will eventually lead to somewhere.

Here’s a list of the things that don’t work and the current battle plan:

Intel 82566MM Ethernet Card I'll keep hunting for drivers

Intel Wireless 4965AGN Probably never going to work, but I'll keep looking

ATI Radion x2300 128mb Graphics Card Need, drivers. I'll try some x1300 ones, since they're supposed to be the same chipset

Intel AD1981HD Audio – It works, but for some reason the HP Quick Launch Mute button comes on every time I play music. I probably can't fix this problem, as there's no way to disable the buttons in BIOS.

Sleep mode – Still trying to get this to work

SD Card Reader (not sure) - Will test to see if it works, but not a high priority

If anyone can help me out, please do. I really need iWork and the internet going, but I can use a friend's version of Office 2004 and XP for my internetting in the short term.

Oh and a quick note. My hardware setup is similar to the T61's, so this thread might be relevant to those people aswell.

Well the attempt was a failure. The installation refused to recognize my SATA HDD no matter what I tired. I also somehow lost my Windows boot information, and ended up having to do a clean install. Someone in another thread (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=64217&hl=6910p#) claimed that the Kalyway install worked to a certain extent for them, so I'm going to give that a shot.

Hi Guys!

I am with you now and installed Kaliway 10.5.2 with the vanilla kernel yesterday. My results are pretty close to loony636 at the top of this thread. I tried to fix the graphics with the data of the x2300 post, but haven't made it yet.

The sound is the next thing I will try and after that I will give the iDeneb_v1.3_10.5.5_ISO a try.

There is also some progress for the wireless drivers 4965agn as you can see here: http://www.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t84072.html.

Hopefully they will get it working soon...

I will give a report of my personal progress soon,

Read up around on the forums first to get an idea of what to do expect, and farmiliarize yourself with what will come.

I would recommend disabling certain devices, especially firewire, to get the setup going. Make sure that your HD is in IDE, not SATA, that should help.

I installed iDeneb 10.5.5, and personally, I went thru hell getting it to run. Even still, I had to wait 10 minutes stuck on the installer loading screen before it magically proceeded by itself, so be patient.

Good luck.

Ahh man, I wish I could rip the x2300 card out and put a more compatible one in :/

Friggin thing will not run. Somebody who's knowledgeable in Linux could create a dump and port over the driver to Unix, and I hope a genius would be nice enough to do that lol.

I've got everything except the X2300 working with my 6910p. Started with an iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6 install - extremely long boot time in the installer (15mins) but it does get there, selected appropriate hardware (their x2300 does not work by the way...)... Once I got the system rebooted (another 15 minutes) I threw in a couple fixes from my iPC 10.5.6 cd (IOPCMCIA) and now the boot time is normal.

I could never get just straightup iPC 10.5.6 working, USB was always failing. I have ethernet, sound, didn't bother with wireless (I don't use it)... no matter what I do I can't get the x2300 working with QE/CI or any resolution other than 1024x768. It sucks. I've tried all the methods of hex editing the X1000 kext but to no avail. Device id for this card is 0x7188 - hope someone can make a kext that works.

hi guys

i have hp 6910p also i managed to install any mac os on it from 10.5.2 to 10.5.7, all works perfect. they boot and work but the only thing left is the drivers i have the lan working and the sound working and the usb and pcmci working fingerprint is detected but can't be used i don't care about it the only driver left is the ATI x2300 there is no fix for it yet.

i hop some will make a fix for it i will be happy to make some tested with it if any one want to make a fix. for the wireless don't bother with it it will not work at all it will detect the driver but there is no way to switch it on other then the touch wireless pad above the keyboard

guys download IAKTOS 10.5.7 dvd and install it you will have the sound and the lan working you will just need to download the rest of the drivers from the forum

all the best
