Ok I finally got my broadcom 4318 wireless working as far as finding the wireless network

but the problem I am having is that it won't connect to it. I type in the right 128bit WEP key but it wont connect says I am typing the wrong password (I am 100% sure it is right) it wont even connect to unsecure networks either.

It finds all the wireless networks around me but wont connect to any of em?

Any Ideas why?

I have a BCM4318 Chip in my wlan card aswell. But I have a problem with my computer hanging every time I try to find the network. Did you have this problem aswell? What version of the AppleAirPortBrcm4311 are you using? The one from 2006-01-03?

Btw, I have a Acer Aspire 3022 WLMi Computer running 8f1111a with JaS v4.2b patch and ATI Addon Patch (For Ati southbridge)

--EDIT-- Sorry in advance for such a long post, it's a bad habbit of mine whenever I do post, and I'm hardcore one for details most of the time.==

Question, has anyone ever had a bcm4318 (pci14e4,4318) ever to work in 10.4.1? Perhaps even more ideally in the deadmoo vmware image after being dd'd to a native partition? Unforunatley I only have 10.4.1 deadmoo, and the 10.4.4/10.4.5 dvd that was just recently released, I think it's a myz iso, but I could be mistaking it. Unforunatley 10.4.4/10.4.5 won't install on my laptop which is an Acer Aspire 3613LCi. Closest listed exact model number on acer.ca is the 3610, as those are the Windows drivers that are normally used and such, etc.

I have tried every single method I can think off to get the 802.11b/g card to be picked up by 10.4.1 that it isn't even funny anymore. I even followed the tutorial for patching the lost functions of AppleAirPort2.kext via a 'foo.c' file and use of GCC4. [Note: anyone researching that tutorial, note, it ONLY works with GCC4 which is preinstalled on the deadmoo image already]. The patching after messing around a whole bunch with it, finally compiled sucessfully, and the kext sucessfully loads with sudo kextload now, but won't stay open in defenitley, it will eventually quit itself I've noticed with kextstat. I've tried various trick's I've read about too such as putting the machine to sleep then re-waking her. Trying to setup 802.1x connections with 'Internet Connect.app', as well as AirPort Admin and Setup utilities. I'm dam near obsessing over this. I'm starting to think it may not be the wifi card's fault itself, but rather perhaps lack of pcmcia drivers/bridge bus drivers, etc.

Any idea's, thoughts, comments, solutions, things to perhaps try? I can say I've tried more then what I've included here as I can't say exactly every trick I've tried right off the top of my head, but I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to tell my wife and baby to #### off just so I can get this working, lol.

Thanks in advanced.

The other question I have is, I remember seeing on the pirate bay while back a zip or rar or something of 10.4.3 drivers. Not sure which build, we could assume 8f1111 as that's the most common 10.4.3 build I find whenever I do research on the net. But I was curious if downloading and extracting these drivers into /System/Library/Extensions and thn repairing permissions with Disk Utility would possibly help my situation at all?

Last question... Where can I get a hold of bcm4311.kext from? I noted earlier from reading this thread that, that was the kernel extension you guys must be using to have your 4318's working.

Big time Thanks guys!

Bye 4 now!

I have the broadcom 4318 driver. I am using the IO80211Family.kext that comes with 10.4.4. And it works, and connects to every wireless network I have tried, without issue.

AppleAirport2.kext is a PPC binary, that means it doesn't work with Intels.

You need to get the IO80211Family.kext and then edit the broadcom driver in their with the 4318 id and make sure you install that kext in the extensions directory

Remove the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files in /SYstem/Library and reboot

That should give you wireless in 10.4.3-10.4.5

I don't believe 10.4.1 has the proper frameworks to work with the new driver.

If you can run 10.4.3 or newer, do it. 10.4.1 is pretty much dead.

Greetings, thanks for the reply! That's the answer I was partially hoping for! lol. Unforunatley I'm near if notover my monthly bandwidth limit for keeping from being dam near cut-off from my ISP or so says my brother. Don't know if I believe him or not. But in the mean while, that stops me from obtaining 10.4.3.

I have installed the 10.4.1 to 10.4.3 update so to speak last night. But I don't tink it's a real update. I think it's more like features amptutated out of 10.4.3 and tar'd for 10.4.1. But not a full proper update.

Out of curiousity, what would happen if I were to copy the Extensions and Frameworks directory's from a 10.4.5 install over top of 10.4.1 install and then repaired permissions and deleted the mkext and kextcache files?

I suppose there's too good a chance I'd break my 10.4.1 install... I suppose my best option would be to make a backup image of 10.4.5 and then restore it over top of my 10.4.1 install after networking it from one of my towers to my laptop via cat5 then repair permissions 'eh? I'll try that second option tonight, let you know how it goes.

Other thing I wondered about as for why I can't detect my 802.11b/g card is if I have a lack of drivers for my North or South Bridge bus or something..? With my luck probably. As AppleACPI fails to load thus my video card, though has supported drivers, Intel 915, still runs only in VESA 3.0 so...I guess that theory would make much sense.

Thanks.
