I have just 133 posts on insanelymac, 120 of them are helping Javalui to develope the driver making tests and hacks, now i have picked a 4965 intel wifi, so if javalui needs more testers about this card i can help using 3945 or 4965.

What i would like, is see his posts, so people, just keep quiet and wait for him. And if you cant read the whole thread, at least read the first post and wait...

Please moderator, consider to erase my post as the more important ones are Javalui´s.

Hi Pere ,

Guys , i know this isn't the right place for what i am about to ask , but , as my english is very poor (Brazilian guy here :D ), i don't even know how to look for this...

Anyway...Pere , i can see that you own a vaio , and for what it looks like , it has the same chipset that mine has...

i have a vaio with intel x3100 965 , the same wifi card as yours , 4965 , the problem is that i just can't pass the boot...ever time it finishs installing it , and it looks like its going to get in the Leopard system , i get a very weird screen(this is what i don't know how to descrive it) it dosen't show me nothing , it is just a bright screen with most part white and same pastel colors , with little lines ...yeah..i know , my english sucks..sorry...hehehe

Has i could instal already in two HPs and even a Packard Bell(brought from Spain) and the only two machines i can't get it with Leopard are the two Vaios i got here

Is this same issue with the Vaios?Does this happened with you?Is there any workaround for it?Am i jus too stupid to get OS X???hehehe..

Sorry again guys , but i couldn't miss the oportunity...

hey i own a vaio too and i had the same problem. i got the solution: delete the natit.kext ant the appleintelgmax3100.kext and boot with -v -x get the pack of drivers with the program to set the resolution of your screen and it would work my vaio is working well exept for the wireless4965.

I saw it mentioned briefly in this thread earlier, but noone seemed to notice --

FreeBSD has a driver "wpi" which supports the 3945 card.

The latest version, as of this post, can be obtained here: http://people.freebsd.org/~benjsc/download...ebsd-wpi.tar.gz

Compared to the iwidarwin and the iwl3945 it's based on, wpi is considerably smaller and simpler. The code is much easier to understand.

jalavoui has certainly put a lot of purposeful effort into forcing iwl3945 on OS X, and I'm actually rather impressed that it's gotten to the point of being able to init the card and scan for networks. Looking at the wpi code should be very educational in getting the card to associate and form a connection.

This card is the only thing stopping me from installing OSx86 and I know driver-level programming on other OSs, so I spent a few hours reading completely the Apple driver development docs. It doesn't look too hard... maybe I'll try writing a driver (based on wpi) too.

Some misc information I got from reading through wpi that might be of use to jalavoui, since apparently the init process still isn't working 100%:

- boot firmware init should take at most 1000ms

- main firmware init should take at most 1000ms

- wpi queries the card 1000 times, waiting 10ms between each try, when transferring the firmware. The maximum wait is 10 seconds (rather long, but maybe needed due to interrupts/other things happening on the PCI bus)

Thanks dude ,but actualy Pere had just send me the same solution ,hehehe...

thanks for the help ,

God!!!!it is great to be macintoshed again!!!hauhauhahauahua

Thank you very much guys , i almost couldn't belive that it worked!!!

Now , the only thing missing is the 4965 wifi ...hehehe , man ...there are lots of people just waiting for javaloui...hehehee...i didn't wanted to be in his shoes right now...

That would be awesome, it seems like any development of a driver has slowed or stopped. So many machines have the 3945 card, mine included...and a laptop with no wireless is pretty much useless in my opinion.

Let us know if you decide to try writing a driver...I'm starting to lean towards buying a new wireless card, but if the driver development starts to pick up again, I'd wait.

Hi there,

I ve been reading this topic for a while, I have also got the 3954 card. But with the Kalyway 10.5.2 version my wireless lan and ethernet event dont listed in the hardware profiler. What about u? Do u see the card in the profiler? Is it necessary to install the airport driver at the beginning in order to see the 3954 card listed? Thanks in advance.

hey

iv just intalled this on my acer travelmate 2400 and it doesnot work and when i launch networkSelector it exits saying: 'Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout'

But im not sure if mine is really an intel 2200gb because in the (user guide it says the travel mate 3210 has this intel chp but for my 2400 it simply says "Integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi® CERTIFIED™ solution,

supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology" so please point me in the right direction?????

thanks

Why dont you look for example with everest what chipset you excactly have in your computer?

Tester11: The tape trick is only to manually forced a wireless card to stay powered on. It solves the issue of booting into OS X and not having a software method of powering up the card. If you need more info on it, use search. Use Google. It's widely publicized.

Pretty sure it isn't going to help with your card though. Besides being powered up, you need driver support.... which doesn't exist yet. And at risk of being attacked, it very well may never exist.

My advice to everyone is to look at when this thread started. Look at today's date. If you aren't comfortable waiting that long again, spend $15. Buy a replacement card, swap yours with a Windows-only friends', whatever. I swapped my Intel 3945 for an Atheros 5006EG (from a Toshiba) and never looked back. It works natively; it performs great. Of course, being on an Acer Extensa 5620, I don't have working Ethernet either; probably never will. It was that or have NO net access on my otherwise awesome Hackintosh.

As a temporary solution, I picked up a Hawking Technologies HWUG1A USB wireless adapter at BestBuy for something like $40. Works perfectly. Download driver from Hawking Tech site and away you go.

But, I, too, am optimistic. :)

LapinMalin,

I'm having the same problem. I get BUS ERROR when i try connecting to a WEP access point thru NS (terminal) or if i use NSGUI I just get a loading circle after entering the HEX/TEXT key but it never connects.

THere are so many people stating that got this driver to work (iwi2200) yet none seem to share what they've done to get it to work.

Sorry WILL V, it work perfectly for me.

But i must type wep key for each reboot :(

I use Kalyway 10.5.1 and no problems with 2200 driver.

2 weeks since I formatted and installed a kalyway

quizaine times on my pc, I will try to

explain how I do. if it can help you ...

1) open NSGUI and clic on connect with your wep key

2)open network preferences, enter your network name, choose airport and clic for "advanced" .

TC/IP choose manualy and enter

your IP 192.168.1.xxx

masq : 255.255.255.0

your router : 192.168.1.1

3) open safari, and clic network diagnostics

Then i don't know what you do it, clic for continue, continue, continue...

Sometimes it work for the first time, sometimes i must reboot, close and open NSGUI...

BUT FINALY IT ALWAYS WORKING

good luck

iwi2200 works under kalyway_10.5.2 which is upgraded from kalyway_10.5.1, WEP is also confirmed working. Just make sure to use XX:XX:XX.. format when typing WEP key. I'm using 40-bit key, and have DELL D6000.

Thanks all developers and supports here for giving us the wireless access on Leopard!

Hey there Heavencat!

Could you specify what do you mean by xx:xx:xx format? I'm able to see my access point; however, when i try to connect thru the NetworkSelector (terminal) i get BUS ERROR or if i try the NSGUI after entering my WEP i get a loading circle then nothing happens? I was wondering what you meant by xx mode?

Thanks,

Thanks for providing me with this info LapinMalin!

Last night is spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get the iwi2200 drivers to work. Every time i enter my WEP key in NSGUI (with HEX checked or unchecked) i just get the loading circle but nothing happens. I dont know if its supposed to show connected, give you a pop up message, or even an error message cuase nothing really happens. If i try to open Network Preferences the window closes itself within seconds which does not let me make any changes, and if i try connecting thru the NetworkSelector (terminal) i get BUS ERROR when i enter my wep key.

I guess i'll re-install Leopard again and see what happens (i'm using Leo4All 10.5.2)

Thanks for taking the time to reply though :)

Will V.

I tried to install FreeBSD driver 3945 but I am getting a "Makefile:14 missing separation stop" error.

Any ideas how I can install it on 10.5.4?

that's because OSX and BSD althought both UNIX based are different OSs, he's supplying it for dev help, it won't work in OSX, and I think those drivers have been posted before

hope that makes sense, it's 5am and I just got off an 11 hour work shift...

iwi2100

works for unprotected networks only

iwi2200

works for wep networks - use nsgui

if association fails reboot and try again

iwi3945/4965

don't work - need hardware to finish writting code

i took 2 days to make iwi2100 to work - i think i can do it for this drivers

thanks for keeping iwidarwin alive
