Branndon
As you can tell from this post, I have searched ALOT and can't find a fix. I'm pretty new to this. I have ToH rc2, the install goes fine, I erase the disk, install to it and everything, but on reboot it hangs at the apple logo with the gray screen. I've even left it at that point over night, so I know I waited long enough. Things I've tried: removing my video card, and USB 2.0 5 port card removing 1 stick of ram, so I only have 3 gb disablign onboard ethernet removing the internet cable installing with with out any extras (languages and fonts) here are my system specs AMD Atllon 64x2 4800 (940 socket) (SSE, SSE2,SSE3) ECS Nettle mother board onboard graphics are nvidia mcp61 video card is nvidia geforce 7600 256mb ram BIOS is phoenix 5.05 Memory is 4gb ddr2 pc 4300 if I boot with the -v -x -f -legacy I can get to the point where I choose that I have never owned a mac beore, then it loops for ever. I will be at work today for the next 10 hours or so, but I'll check this after work. Tomorrow is my day off, so I hope I can get this working! Thanks! BartNijland
Try this: - Disable onboard video card in bios - Throw away that ToH rc2, even it if does run it's still some crappy release candidate - Download the AMD Leopard 10.5.1 DVD - Install Mac OS X clean without any vid drivers whatsoever. And did you try Tiger? Because if you haven't you should start with that. Good luck
Branndon
I downloaded the one I think you're talking about too, and burnt it.... it just starts loading (with something then a lot of periods as it loads, like this: word ........) then it resets the system. the only options for video cards in bios are to choose pci or pci-express, nothing about the onboard. I have not tried tiger, what is the package I should search for? Thanks for the well wishes! I'm determined to get this working.
geshadow
Hi Branndon, The most likely reason you've not been able to boot correctly is that the Toh RC2 DVD release was for Intel chips only, although I'm not 100% whether the updated kernel is compatible with AMD you could try and update the kernel and try that... Mine ya, as it's already said ToH is a prerelease version and it'd probably save you a lot of headaches to download another release. But if you'd like to continue testing Toh send me an email and I'll give you some steps to try geshadow
Branndon
thanks geshadow.... I don't want to test a pre release really, I just want to get it installed... I'll look for a tiger version or something more stable. i have also hooked my ide drive as master on the cable and dvd rom as slave, no difference. Colonel
Well, if you disabled your video, I don't think anything is going to show up on the screen.

Branndon
well i've installed "Mac_OS_X_Leopard_10.5.1_for_AMD_SSE2_SSE3_(32bits)" from Zephyroth and everything went great for the install. then it froze on boot up, i used the options -v -x -f -legacy, it started, but loops after the "do you already own a mac" screen. Anyone have a sure fire fix for this?
mifki
boot with -s, mount teh disk with mount -uw / then type cd /var/db then type nano .ApppleSetupDone put a couple of spaces in the file, Ctrl+x it, save it and then type exit, that might work (even thought the setupdone file should have data in it)
rfuilrez
http://osx.kbot.de/ - Forums http://osx86.wikidot.com/ - Wiki Those are both dedicated to Zephyroth's AMD release of leopard. The wiki is down right now, but under Known Issues there is a section describing the loop problem you have. When it comes back up you can try that. Branndon
ok, I can get it to boot with the options: -x but I prefer: "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" -x but it's still safe mode, and the internet and sound don't work. I'm sure I can find the correct drivers, but how do I install them, I'm COMPLETELY new to mac/linux. Thanks again kiko, and geshadow.

geshadow
Hi Branndon, Like rfuilrez says, read as much as possible on kext and how to install and how to configure. Plus if you can now atleast start the OS in Safe Mode then it's quite possible there's some kext(s) that are conflicting with each other. Example... 2 kext being loaded that are using the same VEN/DEV IDs or simply Permissions on the kext --- By the way, once you got into the OS have you used Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions? geshadow PS... Out to Kiko, thanks for the bit of info, always wanted to know if it was possible(and how) to by-pass the User info setup. LOL I still have so much to learn
Branndon
OK, now I understand how to insert them, do I basically just google them? Something like "nvidia 7600 kext" ? Thanks again guys. If anyone of you need 4x4 help, PM me and I'll send you to my forums and help you in return. I know it's not much, but it's all I can offer. I don't want to spam my link here. geshadow
Hi again, Here's a good walkthrough that worked for me (link for NVInject is there as well) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=69855 Once done, make sure you boot without the -x otherwise you'll need to load the kext manually (Hopefully this will fix the last issue) OK, now I understand how to insert them, do I basically just google them?
