Reboot continuously

Hi

I have installed Kalyway version on my Thinkpad X60s. During the setup I selected Vanilla kernel (both options) and EFI on MBR.

After the setup it starts and after 3/4 secs it reboots. I tried option -v to see what happen but I don't see any error. The last line is something like "MAC Framework...".

I tried to look around on the forum but couldn't find anything. I see that many people has rebooting issue but couldn't find an answer to solve the issue.

I tried to install previously the TOH version (with the TOH kernel) and it works. But I would have the Vanilla kernel.

Thanks

As far as I know, for EFI you need to have a GUID formatted HD (select this option when formatting/partitioning in Diskutilities during install).

You may want to look into this and re-install with either Darwin/MBR/non-vanilla or EFI/GUID/Vanilla.

Also, what CPU are you using?

Thanks for your reply. :-)

My laptop has a Core Duo L2400 1.66Ghz so it should be fine with the Vanilla kernel. Also it has a SATA HD.

I am not sure I can find "XD or Execute Disable Bit capability" into my bios settings. They're pretty basic with laptops. Generally you have all this configuration options into the normal desktop bios. In any case where should it be?

Thanks

You don't need GUID for PC_EFI. Make sure your processor supports XD and SSSE3(use CPU-Z to find out perhaps). Another thing you might want to try is installing just PC_EFI[leave vanilla kernel unchecked if possible] and making sure that works first.

Ok... I was sure about SSE3 but I anyway checked with CPU-Z... my Core Duo L2400 supports SSE3...

Then I couldn't see on CPU-Z whether it supports XD or not so I googled a bit and I found the page on Intel.com... look here under "Intel® Core™ Duo processor Low Voltage"

http://www.intel.com/products/processor_nu...art/coreduo.htm

L2400 supports XD. I couldn't find how enable/disable in the bios so I assume is enabled by default. All the laptops have an easier bios where you cannot do many changes (like you do with the normal desktop pc motherboards).

I have tried the TOH release and it worked. But I know that the TOH installs its kernel (I believe called sleep_kernel - the one installed with Kalyway if you flag SSE2 during setup).

I'll try to reinstall selecting only PC_EFI MBR and not Vanilla. Do I get the standard sleep_kernel in this way? The same you get if you flag SSE2?

Thanks as usual for your great support. :-)

I had the same problem, and what I did was disable multicore in the bios. Some people say you can install/boot with cpu=1 flag, but i haven't tested that.

Great... thanks for the suggestion... I have seen this flag around but didn't investigate much. After I have seen your reply I have googled around and it looks like it does what you say. It runs Mac OSX in single cpu mode. People complained a bit but somebody said that is anyway enough fast.

I don't want to disable on the bios since I use Windows XP in dual boot. At least on Windows I can use the dual core performances (since Windows definitely needs it!!! ;-)).

I'll reinstall again with Vanilla. In the meantime I had installed with only EFI_MBR and it works. So it was an issue with the kernel. Now I try again the vanilla one. :-)

Thanks

By the way... forgot to mention... flag should be cpus=1... not cpu=1... :)
