Hello,

I've got this problem now then I try to install OSx86 I don't have a dvd reader in the computer I want to install only a CD reader.

I've tried to boot from USB hard disk but the system doesn't want to recognize it as a good boot device so I need someway to start the installer from a CD and then load the rest of the installation from the USB drive. Is this possible? or is there another way on doing this? Thanks for you help.

I can give you some pointers that worked for me. While I have a DVD reader, I don't have a core2duo so I can't boot the retail leopard dvd. Also, my system native bios won't boot from usb. So, this is what I did.

To support booting 2 or 3 different systems (linux, osx86 etc..) I use a boot manager that can be installed on a floppy. It is called Smart Boot Manager and can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/btmgr/ I found that if I formatted my external usb hard drive using Disk Utility and selected the GPT partition format Smart Boot Manager could see it and boot it.

Next, I used Disk Utility to make a dmg image of the retail leopard dvd and then used Disk Utility to restore it to a partition on the external usb drive. When the image was restored to the usb drive, I installed the pc_efi boot loader from pc_efi_v8.

You can get information on pc_efi_v8 at http://netkas.org/ - check the forum there and/or go to the irc channel for #leopard.

I had to replace the mac_kernel and some additional kexts to get the usb drive to boot on my hacintosh system, but once that was done, I was able to go to the target system, insert the floppy and plug in the usb drive and reboot. That's how I installed leopard on my main osx86 system.

Hope it gives you some ideas to work from - good luck.
