Wrong :-)

What I'm saying about my box is that's my experience. If you buy something other than a P5LP with an ALC888, I can't guarantee anything. As well, the specific codec for my hardware combination (southbridge and audio controller) is posted in my thread.

I wasn't looking for audio when I bought my machine. I was looking for a very-close-to-a-mac platform. Finding out I had S/PDIF with the right codec and patch was nice surprise. Since I had the equipment to take advantage, I did.

So again, find the audio controllers with a posted or archived codec in the audio thread that can be patched for 5.1. The mobo you're looking for will feature 5.1 or better sound with that particular controller.

Your best bet is to read here:

If 5.1 is important, find in that thread the audio controllers successfully patched at that spec. Make sure you browse the codec repository. Then find a workable board with that controller.

For the record, I built a great Leo box with an off-the-shelf HP machine from Circuit City (see sig). It has ALC888S controller that when patched gives me 7.1 and S/PDIF I/O (I use the S/PDIF). The only thing that doesn't work is the onboard NIC, but Ethernet is an easy substitute. Just plan ahead.

My install guide is here and would apply to any machine with the same hardware:

hi there

I did the same with my HP Pavilion MC m8080 which has the same mobo ASUS P5LP-LE as you have.

For the network I just found around the house an old PCI Combo Card USB2.0/1394/Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC and works very well and fast.

I tried to read as much page of the topic you posted as possible in this days but I didn't find any useful answer....I'm still waiting for someone who can confirm the 5.1 analog support with his motherboard....even if I continue to search.

Thanks time ed!

I've read several threads where posters claim to have 5.1 or better with Taruga's patch. The most successful is the ALC/Realtek controller.

There are I-don't-know-how-many codecs for any number of audio devices archived in the Taruga thread. But the trick is for you to find a well-supported board witha well-supported audio chip - one that's very close to actual Apple hardware. You'll have real success if you can extract the exact codec for your hardware before you install OSX. I did this with Knoppix LiveCD.

Best of luck,

I read about some people that have successfully obtained 5.1 analog support, in the configuration window they are able to make the 5 speakers and the sub sound...but when they listen to the music (with iTunes for example) they can't have 5.1 and only the two front speakers work.

I'm still reading the topic anyway.

I believe my 5.1 is working on my Bad Axe 2. Just applied a simple audio patch and I was ready to go.

This is completely new to me...I had always read that on the bad axe 2 only 2 channel audio is possible....do you have full 5.1 analog audio? Where is this patch?

Thanks!

Bye!
