Robbiem
hey there, i was wondering if anyone knew how or knew anything about overclocking a macnbook? i have a 2.16 ghx intel core 2 duo macbook.. 1 gb ram. running leopard. wondering if anyone could help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/80288-macbook-overclocking-in-leopard/ Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Can't be done, sorry. The speed is locked into the hardware, and there's nowhere where you can change it (no BIOS etc) Very few laptops support overclocking anyway, and the benifit is small, plus it runs hotter and uses battery faster etc. So no. Turiski
Really? What about minor increases? Maybe not with overclocking but in some other format? I have a 2.2GHz processor speed and my game requires 2.4GHz to run Do you think that there is any solution to this kind of problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/80288-macbook-overclocking-in-leopard/#findComment-570444 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
What game is it? Is the requirement a 2.4ghz Pentium 4? Then it should work no problem. Remember the Core brand cpu's are much faster than comparably clocked p4's. Also GPU speed is much more important. Lozzo
Just a thought, coming from the PC side of overclocking things... What is the chance of doing a BSEL mod on these chips? As far as I can find out, they use the Merom mobile c2d CPUs, which still have the BSEL0/1/2 pins of the E series chips. So, has anyone ever tried whipping out the CPU and BSEL-modding the CPU for a higher FSB? macprodan
My 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo runs a 13x Multi x 166 for 2.16Ghz changing it to 13 x 200 FSB would make it 2.6Ghz. not sure it could handle the Heat or even run at that speed with the voltage it is on now. Is it even possible.? I thought the CPU`s were built onto the motherboard, getting access to the pins would would be impossible. could do it to the solder pojnts on the back of the motherboard. Is the Risk worth it. not in my opinoin. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/80288-macbook-overclocking-in-leopard/#findComment-582039 Share on other sites

Maybe thats just the desktop ones.. Anyway, as you suggest, you could solder a couple of wires to the corresponding BSEL 0/1/2/VCC/GND pins and switch around to see what happens. I'm not familiar at all with Apple hardware designs (well, not since I took a Classic apart years ago..) , coming here from the Hackintosh side of things, but the BSEL mod is a well tried and trusty overclocking method for C2Ds when they are mated with an tweak-unfriendly motherboard. Voltage mods can also be applied with similar pin-mods also. Note that the CPU's in Apple's notebooks are soldered to the motherboard and not-upgradeable, and you are therefore unable to access the pins underneath unlike a PC notebook. macprodan
Yeah, If you look at ifix screenies you can the underside. plus the merom based MB`s and MBP`s chipset prob do not support 800 fsb, well at least I guess they dont.
