fleisch
Hi everyone! I've been searching around for a while already, but there seems to be no solution out there...I've read multipe threads where people have similar problems with their network devices. So I'm opening up a new topic hoping to gather as much information about these problems as possible. please post your hardware here if you have similar complaints. They seem to work fine, internet connection is there but sometimes for no apparent reason they lose it. If network settings are set to dhcp, the adapter get's a self assigned ip, so I set the ips manually, still no luck. it seems to be a little bit more stable but there is still connection drops... Once the connection is dead I haven't found any solution but to restart my computer. really annoying! I've tried unloading and reloading the viarhine.kext, deactivate and reactivate my device, no luck Also replaced IONetworkingFamily.kext with a version from 10.4.8...didn't help so some hardware information: E6300 on 775Dual-VSTA (Asrock) 7900gt nvidia, kalyway 10.5.1 on a IDE drive...everything else run's perfectly. Do we need a new version of the ViaRhine.kext? or is there a conflict somewhere? Is anybody using Viarhine without problems? Any responses would be appreciated! Thx to the community and kalyway for a great release! cheers, fleisch

lean
Same problem for me on a 4coredual-vsta with the onboard viarhine and also with a pci realtek 8139.. I noticed that the 8139 seems to work if i run my agp fx5200 without qe/ci, but it still uses alot of cpu to download at 100mbit. I didnt try the viarhine with qe/ci disabled yet. Pete5x5
I have the exact same problem: no matter what I do I always get disconnected and have to restart my computer. I've just tried the attached kext so I'll see if that helps at all. Does anyone know of any other viarhine kexts out there that I could try? --Pete5x5
litania72
Have the same 4core dual-vsta and network works perfectly if i do this: 1) at start i press f8 and type -f to load all kexts, otherwise..........no viarhine.kext loaded. 2) internet used to disappear after a few minutes. Happened with xp as well, and the prob is that you need to change the powr management on your leo or tiger os. Get there through settings, and make sure no hardware goes to 'sleep' after a certain time. hope it helps, it does for me !!!!
litania72
Forget what i have told u b4, just apply thestevo 4.0 patch to kalyway 10.5.1 Those issues r totally resolved with that, network, sound, sata all working. Hope it helps!
Pete5x5
That's all you have to do to fix it? Change the power management? That's awesome! Also, I don't have the patch that you're tlaking about...or even how to apply it, although I'm sure I could figure it out. But if you were to send me a link or upload or some other help you'd be my hero! --Pete5x5

litania72
HiI found the patch on TBP in torrent format. use your dvd Leopard 10.5.1 kalyway (if u have 1) and covert it to iso format in diskutil. Honestly i did everything in vista by using ultraiso to convert/burn, as ppf-o-matic did not work on leo.So......1. convert your install Leo Kalyway DVD 10.5.1 in .ISO format2. download the thestevo patch 4.0 from tpb (look in google)3. install/run ppf-o-matic (already installed in leo kalyway)4. follow the instructions (very easy, the soft will implement the patch inside the iso of leopard). in vista took less than a min5. burn the iso back on dvd.6. restart/install the os againgood luckPete,i now have installed the viarhine.kext taken from a macdotnub tiger install dvd, and i am using the internet from already a couple of hours, no drops.I had probs with the patched leo dvd also, but the point is that i have tiger/leopard 10.5.1 already installed on 2 separate hdd, and i had no dropping of connection there. only thing is that to make sure that the kext is installed properly and working, when i start the pc, i need to press f8 and then type -f (command to load all kexts). So fingers crossed it keeps working.Again try first with the patched DVD of leopard kalyway, if it does not work, then try installing the viarhine.kext, and maybe, by using the kexthelper.Good luck!Viarhine.zipabove you have 3 versions of the viarhine.kext. REmember to repair permissions of your hd in diskutil.
382jsl881
All ViaRhine.kext' in this thread are identical, they have the same md5 checksum (file ViaRhine.kext/Contents/MacOS/ViaRhine) of "effc8a5dfea5b3c94e9bb22ea138673". Is there a bugfix available for Leopard 10.5.6? description by steveo What your log messages are complaining about is having long queues of packets to resend after (probably) lots of collisions. When those queues get too long, the driver stops everything. But you don't need to restart every time. Stopping and restarting the network card is enough. >Currently trying: Does the cpu=1 boot flag help? - yes, but only one cpu! Different checksum VIA Drivers for 10.4.x - doesn't work More info => General topic about this problem
