I have spent hours and hours trying to get this to work on my dell inspiron 1520 but the OS just won't work.

It either has a flashing link in the corner of a black screen or says "missing operating system".

Either way there is no sign of it at all loading but the dvd installation is fine.

Can someone help me with this i would be grateful as i would love to get leopard working...

Many thanks, Shaun

I used disc utility on the installation disc (mac os journalled) also checked for that mbr and its set to it but still nothing.

Could it be that the hard drive is set to ata on bios options? i could try switching to ahci (i think its called that)

Also i enabled sse2 kernel on the customizing and now see your not supposed to unless you havn't got an intel board which i have/

Well i'll keep trying but any help would be great.

Many thanks, shaun

Re-install with the vanilla kernel and the EFI hacks. Hit only the Broadcom x440 drivers (onboard ethernet). If you select the 10.4 80211 stuff your wireless likely won't work. Install a bootloader (did you run the Darwin Boot utility? Flag the partition as active? Neither did anything for me so I used a 90mb grub partition, but EasyBCD or Acronis would do just as well).

You'll want some of the kexts from Kalyway to get power management working properly also.

thanks for quick reply, tried everything above, i did select some of them wireless drivers including the broadcom, im on r2 by the way sorry if didn't explain. would these wireless drivers prevent from booting?

I also used gparted cd to check boot flags, its all ok but still nothing.

I have access to the 1.1i off my giganews downloads so i can get that aswell.

And finally how do i run darwin bootloader? Sorry im new to this stuff when i installed 10.4.6 on desktop i had no hassle.

I have the same problem, formated the drive using the installer's disk utility to MBR and extended with journaling. I have XP on a SATA drive and I'm installing the iatkos on the ATA(IDE) drive. After installation it just boot into XP instead and show no sign of OSX ever on the system.

I think I missed the Darwin Boot utility step cause I never seen it in the installation process and it's not in any of the utility options. Where do I find it in the installer or do I have to get it from a different source?

well i found that someone had this problem on an IBM and someone told them to insert tiger dvd manual load bootloader in terminal heres the link how to:http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1789&p=13970&hilit=+manually+darwin#p13970I'm gona go try itUpdateWouldn't work so i don't know if that will solve it... looks like its going to be a long day...Now burning 1.1i in nero hopefully there will be an improvement r2 just won't work.
