wuzzy
After reading for a couple of hours on these forums I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to get ATI cards running i higher resolutions than 1280x1024. Is this correct? Or have anyone seen a Radeon 9600 - 9800 card in a higher resolution? alienware
Yes it is. edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and add <key>Graphics Mode< /key> <string>1280×1024×32</string> remember to repair permissions and delete Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache Good luck! BillyB
Did this work?? I am using a ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 and hope to get a resolution of 1400x1050 but would settle for 1280x1024 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7974-resolutions-above-1280x1024-with-ati-radeon-9600/#findComment-50790 Share on other sites
firepoi
Hi, what alienware described worked for resolutions up to 1280x1024. But what wuzzy and me to (Ati Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo) wanted to know was how to get a higher resolution like 1400x1050 or even better 1680x1050. That trick doesn´t help for these resolutions. I followed many disussions but I´ve so far nobody seen with this card and this resolution. By the way, when Darwin come´s up and I type ?video, 1400x1050 is on the list but I can´t select it wheter with "Graphics Mode".... nor with the boot.pl. Any other suggestions? (Besides this, thanks to alienware ... :-)) thanks firepoi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7974-resolutions-above-1280x1024-with-ati-radeon-9600/#findComment-50805 Share on other sites
MikeBee
am having the same problem here on an ati mobility 9000. the only solution is to either run 1280x1024 using the ATI kexts or you can delete (or move) all ATI*.kext files out of /Library/System/Extensions/ and it will fall back to run in VESA mode so you can get higher res than 1280x1024. trouble is you lose hardware acceleration, which is a bind for playing any kind of video if anyone has a solution please let me know! Takuro
Resolutions higher than 1280x1024 will only be achieved once we get the option to actually choose from a list of resolutions in the preference pane. There's no way to force it any higher as far as the plist goes. You can only change resolutions in the preference pane if your video card has drivers that include frame buffers. Currently in 10.4.3, ATi drivers lack this. In 10.4.4, there is an ATi frame buffer present, so things look good for the future once it's cracked. firepoi
Thanks Takuro. This was the info I wanted to here. munky
takuro: i was running my geforce 6800 at 2048x1536x32 using the "Graphics Mode" string of the plist, and it had no accelleration, so what you said is not true, at least for nVidia cards. now i have a radeon x1800xl, and im stuck at 1280x1024, tho i do now have CI, QE and OpenGL :pirate2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7974-resolutions-above-1280x1024-with-ati-radeon-9600/#findComment-53801 Share on other sites
regularg0nz0
To anyone who can help: which series of files would be important for an ATI 9600se? the 9700 files? Tek_No
Open up System Profiler and goto the Graphics/Displays option on the left. Then write down the Device ID of your graphics card. Then do a "Show Package Contents" on the ATIRadeon9700.kext: open "Contents" folder and open "Info.plist" with e.g. TextEdit. Look for the "IOPCIMatch" key and see if your device ID is in there: will look like 0xabcd1002 where abcd is the device ID and 1002 is the Vendor ID for ATI Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7974-resolutions-above-1280x1024-with-ati-radeon-9600/#findComment-54148 Share on other sites
regularg0nz0
Yes. It helped immensely just to have confirmation that the 9700 was the series to use. I've added my device ID, got QE and CI, re-flashed the BIOS because I don't and an LCD yet, and 60 hz was giving me a headache, popped Mousepose' on the system, and I'm set! Thank you so much answering my question. I'd gotten everything else I needed from countless other threads, but that one little piece was it. Woo-hoo!
