Moving install to new disk

I have a working install of Kalyway Leopard, Vanilla, 10.5.1. I have a new disk. If I reinstall Kaly on the new disk, and use Time Machine (yup, it's working :)) to reinstate the backup I'm making right now, will all the kexts and custom drivers be reinstated as well, or just my files and programs?

If the answer is B, what's a better way to move my working install to my new, big-ass (SATA) disk?

(Super Duper isn't Leopard compatible yet, because Time Machine won't work after the move. See this link.

Don't need to reinstall.

Just use the install DVD and select Restore from backup in "Tools" menu.

After you do your backup you will need to redo your EFI/MBR loader as TM doesn't make it bootable.

Have done this a lot of times and is the best solution IMHO.

Good luck!!!

ps. once you see how easy it is to do you will know "TimeMachine is your NEW best friend!!!"

Does your footer say that you have an ATI 2600 DVI working?

His footer says so, and mine doesn't, but I have one working as well :P

Get the file from Netkas (#radeonhd on irc.osx86.hu), it contains an installer. Run the installer, turn off computer, switch from vga to dvi, start computer, tadaaa.

I have a Radeon HD 2600 XT though, so if you have another version things could be different.

However: back to my problem ;)

How do I redo the EFI/MBR loader? I'm using the Kalyway install disc, and I've just selected the entire Vanilla/EFI business, so I don't have a postpatch lying around. Do I need one, or are there some nifty terminal commands to type?

I successfully used Acronis True Image to image old partition/drive and put it onto a new disk. In fact, this is how I backup any of my working Leo installs before I mess around with them. It saved my a.. at least 3-4 times. Works great even in dual boot environment. Since it's an image, it will be identical to what you had before, including efi.

If anyone can let me know how I would go about reinstalling EFI and the bootloader (i'm partitioned GUID if that makes any difference.) I would desperately appreciate it. I'm P5W DH on a kalyway 10.5.1 install that I broke after installing 10.5.2.

Anyway if anyone has any tips let me know.

Thanks a ton.

I use the Kalyway 10.5.2 install disc and I've yet been able to restore a system from TimeMachine using an external SATA HD in a USB 2.0 enclosure. When I try to restore from the Kalyway DVD, all I get is a spinning ball. Any hints or tips on how to get it to work?

I've got hackbook (Dell 1525) now as well and there are still a few features I'd like to get going and sometimes I end up screwing up the system. I'd like to be able to restore the system without having to reinstall everything from scratch.

Thanks.
