:( I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.4.7 on a PC with an Intel Pentium 4 (Prescott) chip.

I ran CPU-Z, and it said I have SSE3.

I read Wikipedia, which said Prescott have SSE3.

I opened System Profiler, and it said I have NO SSE3.

?!

I even turned off Hyper-Threading. No hope.

I really need SSE3 to install 10.4.9, or get to Leopard (downloaded iATKOS w/o thinking... :dev: )

Any help?

Thanks!

(Also searched the forum for "Pentium 4 SSE3" and "Pentium 4", no luck)

Afaik all P4HTs have sse3. I'd trust cpuz initially, but to be sure just look up the exact CPU model on intel.com. I'm inclined to think this is just a glitch in system profiler, unless you're on a Dell, some of which had a wierd BIOS that meant they had to use sse3-emulation (sse2 kernel) on sse3 cpu's.

I tried to install the SSE3 kernel in JaS disk. And it couldn't even get to the gray screen. It just restart.

I tried to install JaS 10.4.9 Combo Update (SSE3 only) and I got a kernel panic.

Maybe Mac OS X can't recognise SSE3 in my P4?

By the way, I'm not on a Dell. I'm on a [manually configured, custom, handpicked,..... I'm a Vietnamese ].

P.S. Maybe there's a problem with replying. If you reply twice under the same username, the 2 posts will get stick together. It's weird.

@Hyper X: Ok mine is exactly like yours, except it's 3.0 GHz. It's a P4, socket 487 (or 478?)

This is just getting annoying. System Profiler still didn't say my P4 support SSE3. When I try to install SSE3 kernel, it will continuously restart and restart and restart...

Any help?

Not all HT P4s have SSE3 ^_^

All the P4 'C's (800 FSB) had HT, but were Northwood cores, and there's the original 3.06GHz Northwood (533 FSB), which also had HT. That was a great chip. I had mine clocked up at 3.8GHz, which was very fast in it's day, and probably still cooler-running than the Prescott nuclear reactor-level transistor current leakage chips that followed. It was still trounced by the A64 3200+ which I replaced it with, at a paltry 2.5GHz for most jobs. Saved on my electricity bill too :D

Still, the OP's chip clearly is a PrescHOTt, and does support SSE3. OS X does that (report wrong.)

I'm installing from JaS' image.

Still downloading iATKOS... 99%, then stop. Weird...

So if OS X made a wrong report, what should I do now? Since I haven't got iATKOS yet.

Tried installing with SSE3 kernel again yesterday. And it restarted like a retarded again.

$*&%#($*%Y!

EDIT: And CPU-Z just told me that my P4 supports SSE3. F$%*)&$)*%D! Also, I'm in Vietnam, with really slow and pricey ISPs. So I can't download those images easily. Right now I'm asking my friend to download them for me ^_^

Are you really that worried about what system profiler says?

So long as you know your CPU supports SSE3, any issue you have with a kernel expecting SSE3 can't be anything to do with SSE3. There are plenty of other issues that are known to have caused a kernel to reboot in the manner you described. HPET issues, BIOS issues, USB issues, NX/XD-bit being disabled, PAE issues (only experienced on Pentium-M with old kernels) - I'm just giving examples. OS X is/has been very bad at reporting SSE3. Look elsewhere for the solution to your issues if you're sure your CPU is a Prescott or newer P4.

Thanks.

I'll look further in InsanelyMac and Google before saying anything else.

These 2 guys had exactly the same problems as mine. For the record, I installed OSX86 successfully with the SSE2 kernel too.

But I'm using Gigabyte's mainboard, not Dell's.

Edited by Le Son

Installed the SSE3 kernel *only* from JaS' image.

Saved a backup of the SSE2 kernel for rebooting.

When I try to run OSX86 from the SSE3 kernel, my computer would just reboot and reboot. Using "cpus=1", disabling HyperThreading had no effect at all.

When I try to upgrade my OSX from 10.4.7 to 10.4.9 using JaS' Combo update for SSE3 only, I would receive a kernel panic, same as DavidD and Sleeping Sentry in the 2 links above.

Any help?

The first thing: sorry for my english.

I have a 3.2Ghz P4 Prescott. Kallyway 10.5.1 installed and the famous blinking cursor problem.

I have installed Kallyway with all kind of combinations, beeing with SSE2 the only one what have worked fine for me.

I have no idea why, but wit SSE2 patch it works!

BTW: hay can I deactive hyperthreading? Leopard freeze sometimes.

Thanks!

I have a pentium 4 prescott 3.0. The JAS version of 10.4.8 works perfectly fine. Full support of all of my hardware including graphics card. However, i can not install the combo update to 10.4.9, it cycle boots. If install kalyway's version of leopard...it loads up and then it says I must reboot my system on the grey screen of death. Even with the SSe2 selection enabled it does this. Not a single form of Mac OS but 10.4.8 has worked on this machine. any ideas on the constant rebooting of leopard??

I'm using JaS' 10.4.6 (actually, 10.4.4 --> 10.4.6 right from installation). It doesn't recognize SSE3 in my chip at all, even from the installation DVD.

I still can't download Uphuck's iATKOS or Kalyways' 10.5.1. For some reasons, mine stuck at 99% (?!).

I don't have any other image to test.

Trying to find a better torrent out there. If somebody downloaded Leopard before, please seed again! I don't mind redownloading, just need to get to 100% :).

I have used both with no luck. Kalyway's installs fine but when I go to reboot, everything loads up but then I get a gray screen of death telling me to reboot. iAtkos doesnt even run on my machine. once the disc starts to load up, it turns my computer off.

YEAH!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup_anim:

After spending some time (or days?!) searching through the Internet, I finally found this guide in InsanelyMac to update my hackintosh from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8. After that, I went into System Profiler. Voila!! It recognized SSE3!!!

Well it called my processor "Unknown" in About this Mac but I don't care!

I also updated my hackintosh to 10.4.9 without a hitch!

YEAH!!!!

I attached my "About this Mac" below.

Thanks Lord, Jesus,... Thank to everybody, dead or alive, good ;) or evil :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:post-164885-1200242301_thumb.jpg

Wow, I think there's going to be World War III. Goodbye world peace ;)

I feel horrible...

After all those trials and errors, I finally got to 10.4.9. I would like to cheer, but, unfortunately, I can't mount any disk image now!

The only thing it said to me was "Device not configured"! If I open DiskImageMounter manually, I would get a lot of "load_hdi: timed out waiting for driver to load" before the same old "Device not configured"!

God, what did I do wrong?

P.S. I'm using the kernel from 10.4.8. Trying the newer kernel.
