(MoC)
Out of the boredom that strikes many humans in some days, today, I decided to whip out my Lego Robotics Invention System 2.0. I wanted to build some kind of vehicle with a steering system similar to a car's and a differential in the same way. This is only a proof of concept!!!! After some time, I came up with the CarBot (some pics show the mechanism and one shows the RCX): Tomorrow I will do a new robot; more compact and efficient (probably a homemade suspension) For now: Give me some opinions!! ~pcwiz
Excellent robot! I have the new Lego Mindstorms NXT and I've played with trying to get a steering system in place for a crazy fast car I was building but I couldn't do it. I tried splitting the car into 2 sections and by setting the front half to swivel to behave like a steering system but it didn't work because I couldn't get the motors to fit into place. Nice rack and pinion steering system though, never thought of it myself Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77458-rack-and-pinion-robot/#findComment-547977 Share on other sites
(MoC)
Here is a general idea of what I did: - Get the flat center holed plank like I have. Put the unrolled gears on top - Then get a way to make a swivel system. When I rebuild tomorrow (I don't have enough torque/power and it is long!!) I'll u-load a schematic. erbic
I still have a 2.0 RCX laying around somewhere. I've been getting into Java programming lately, and I know there's a way to program the RCX with Java code. I think it requires a firmware reflash though. I'll post what I come up with, if I come up with anything. (MoC)
@ Erbic: There is, I forgot where, but use google. @ pcwiz: I uploaded a pdf that will help you with the issue (rackpinion.pdf) ________________________________________________ Ok, I rebuilt the CarBot and had created a direct torque system. I also perfected the steering system. Now after I upload these pictures I will create a Johnny 5 (Short CIRCUIT) Droid!
