Copy the "chain0" file from "/usr/standalone/i386" to your windows "C:\" (or boot) directory. Then add this at the end of your "C:\boot.ini":

C:\chain0="Mac OS x86"

Thanks Mate Now Have Duel Boot with mac on end Of Main Hard Disk,, Couln't have done it without your help....

I installed OS X on partition 3 of hdd 0. I tried using the C:\chain0 at the end of my boot.ini file, but it doesn't work for some reason. I installed OS X after XP was already installed. I have tried putting multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) and

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3) in front of chain0, but all combinations end in errors. Am I just doing something wrong, or is this tweak not going to work with the Windows loader due to the way the way the os'es are loaded on the hdd?

What's the error you get? The c:\ in front of chain0 doesn't specify where OS X is to be found, but where the chain0 file is. If it's somewhere else, you have to specify the complete path to it obviously. When loaded, chain0 looks for the Darwin boot code in all partitions on all hard disks it finds (well, it should, at least), and chain-loads the Darwin boot loader.

chain0 is located at C:\. I left it there for simplicity. When I select OS X, it givees me an error saying a particular windows file is corrupt or missing. Could it be that I just installed OS X on the 3rd partition with an existing XP install, vice the 1st partition then installing XP on another partition?

what file is the Darwin boot code? I have noticed that I can not load OS X without the cd in. I am thinking that some files that were supposed to get copied did not, even after numerous installs

:( Did you even bother to read the thread before posting this?

Wait a second, are you even reading, what I have posted?

I asked for a bootloader for OS X, i.e. to use from within Mac OS X! I am not talking about chain0 bla bla, nor about Disk Director which is for Windows and which I already use.

What I want, is a bootloader which is similar to Disk Director just for Mac OS X, maybe I wasn't clear enough to stress this aspect!

I would look into GRUB... I dont know if it supports being installed on Mac or not, but i know theres a version that installs from Linux, and Windows... While the bootloader is not actually installed "within" Mac OS X, (if there even is a mac version), it is installed on the MBR (Master Boot Record), and its settings live "within" Mac. I am using it to dual boot linux and OSX (installed from linux), so if you find there is a mac version, and need any help setting it up, reply or PM me.

cheers,

keith

A bootloader, by definition, is OS agnostic. It does not run IN the OS, but as part of the boot process, and is usually loaded in place of the MBR. I don't think I understand exactly what you are trying to do. Are you trying to boot straight from OS X to Windows? You can't do that without rebooting the machine. You can't do it the other way around either.

This is not working for me.... Boots right into Windows. I can't boot to Mac without the DVD.

Then you did something wrong with your install.

I had a problem when i selected Mac OS it just rebooted. So I looked for the boot.ini which was on my data pratition not the Windows System partition.

SO I move the chain0 to the same drive as the Boot.ini was on then rebooted and selected Mac OS and this time it worked.

Hope this helps

Copy the "chain0" file from to your windows "C:\" (or boot) directory. Then add this at the end of your "C:\boot.ini":

C:\chain0="Mac OS x86"

I can't find the "chain0" or "/usr/standalone/i386" Is that supposed to be on the partition drive mac's installed in? If so I can't access it. It doesn't show up in my computer. There's no drive letter when I go to disk management.

Also i see no chain0 file on the install disk (iAtkos v7) I see "Boot" another boot "Boot" "Boot0" "Boot1h" "Boothelp" "CdBoot" "Readme"
