Hi there,

I'm building a tower for my Hackintosh project and I'm trying to boot the system with this Asus (ATI) EAH 2600 XT GPU in (DDR3 256 Meg == 2xDVI)

It boots seemingly ok, but after the grey apple screen with moving circle, when it changes to the Choose Your Language Screen, I get a screen full of large black characters. Moving the mouse is detectable but completely impossible to see anything There's a screenshot in this post: http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?...=2600+XT#p19339 but the author never got any replies.

System:

Asus P5K Premium Black Pearl Edition

2 SATA hdds

SATA DVD

4 gig 1066 MHz GSkill

BrazilMac patched DVD.

I also have an Asus (ATI) EAH 2600 Pro (DDR2 512 Meg == 2xDVI) to try later

Am I missing something? Is it usable? I've had problems getting out of Safe Mode graphics with nVidia's before but nothing like this.

Many thanks!!

Diz

Press F8 when you try to install from DVD and type:

-x

This will boot you into install in "generic" mode, in simple terms. Once you get it installed, reboot with -x again and run the ATI 2600 package (look for it somewhere here on these boards). On the following reboot do not use "-x" and voila.

I think I love you. Thanks! Wil try it now.

When it didn't work, (and I was itching to install something on my new rig) I swapped out the ATI for an nVidia EN 7200 GS I had lying around.

A quick note - once I've got Leo installed, my path would be: wait until Leo is in and working.

Shut down, swap cards, boot from the hdd but with the -x, install the package and then reboot, and hopefully voila...

Is that right?

Cheers!

I did the same but it's not working for the 2600 XT I have ... I'm still waiting for a solution. If someone has the same graphic card and has the solution, I'll enjoy it.

I found the solution.

1- download the driver from the IRC #radeonHD channel. The file is named radeon_hd_2600_2900.pkg and weights about 332k

2- install Kalyway 10.5.1 or whatever

3- at boot, use the -x option to boot in safe mode that allows you to fill the username and other user information

4- once you're on OSX, you are able to launch the driver (just click next in it)

5- reboot, your graphic card should be working !!
