newbienewbie
Ok, i really love apple! Actually decided to buy a Powerbook even before this osx came out. But these days i've just been thinking: As Apple's new Intel-based machines are coming, would it be possible to run Windows XP or most likely Vista on those new machines? It would be great to have both in one of course. There was some news saying that one guy from Microsoft confirmed that windows can run on Mac machines, it that true? And for Apple's new machines, is there going to be plenty of software? Old software won't run at all, right? Really can't decide if i should buy a ppc powerbook now or wait for the new model. Any opinions, guys? Thanks heaps! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/743-mac-intel-hardware/ Share on other sites

tedg007
there has been video and screenshots of xp running on the dev machines just saying that it is infact possible, and you dont have to mess around with all the {censored} required to run osx86. its a clean install, as if it were on my amd fx53 machine tedg007 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/743-mac-intel-hardware/#findComment-4455 Share on other sites

However, Apple IS damn beautiful and powerful, it basically has every aspect such as interface, search function which windows has been yelling around to add but still not there yet. Just can't wait to get my powerbook! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/743-mac-intel-hardware/#findComment-4458 Share on other sites
dogbert
apple hardware will become cheaper and much more powerful when they finally start delivering x86 machines, so I'd wait. another advantage would be that you don't run into much trouble running other operating systems than mac os X on an x86 apple. *BSD and linux r quite messy on the current line of powerbooks, and windows can obviously only be emulated. AgentOrange
I can't run Windows on my PowerBook G4 1.5GHz, and I don't mind a bit. One thing I've noticed about dual booting, it doesn't really get used. If you like OS X*, you're going to stay in OS X. If you "need Windows", you'll find a way around having to boot there. *here I'm talking about a full featured and stable release like on PPC hardware, not the hacked DevKit. Thanks for your opinion. Windows surely won't run on the currently ppc machine. But i'm just hoping it would be considered as a "let it go" on the future machine, as the new structure is totally good enough to run windows unless "tweaked" as disabled by evil manufacturers. And still don't understand why Apple wouldn't just stick to IBM and use their Cell processors. Those awesome chips perform great in PS3! Those awesome chips perform great in PS3! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> because the cell is more or less a ppc core with 8 parallel vector processors which are only useful for special tasks. the cell is an exception of the powerpc family because it's designed by sony/toshiba/IBM and produced in large numbers which makes it cheap unlike its predecessors. it was a very smart move to break free from the dependency to IBM which resulted in expensive {censored} hardware.
