Urbz
Hi, I have an intel pro/wireless 2200 b/g mini-pci card in my laptop, and i'm sick of not having it work. There was a project, but it is now completely abandonned and i'm looking to switch cards. I'm thinking ebay. But i don't know which card i should get. Which cards are in the new intel-macs? Which cards, apart from those two, work? also, i would want an "upgrade" from what i'm currently using. Do they incorporate bluetooth? thanks, urby Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7397-wireless-choice/ Share on other sites
Allistah
I had the same Intel card in my Inspiron 9300. I replaced it with a Dell TrueMobile 1450 (Broadcom 4309 chip on it). Once I installed the 80211Family kext file from 10.4.4 it detected it fine and works great. I don't however have a working signal strength meter. I bought mine on Ebay. Allistah
My Inspiron 9300 has bluetooth yes. It does work. I did however have to remove the file called AppleFPMemDriver.kext or something to get the bluetooth and USB to work. Once I removed that file and rebooted it worked fine. Allistah
I dunno. I would think that if your laptop can make use of a mini-PCI card, that it would work for you. I would check into it a little further though. Check with other people that have your laptop and see what they've used. fireshark
Apple's Airport xtreme looks like miniPCI, but isn't. It will not work. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7397-wireless-choice/#findComment-46215 Share on other sites
Urbz
alright, allistar, thank you for all your help, you've been very informative and i really appreciate it!!! and you too, fileshark, ill definetly stay away from airport extreme! I am going to check out a post here about broadcom cards. Just so I know what chipsets work and what don't. If i can't find any info, ill get the card you have! As far as swapping cards, im going to put my intel in my dad's toshiba tomorow and see what happens! But i think it should be fine! thanks again, urby Edited January 22, 2006 by Urby3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7397-wireless-choice/#findComment-46217 Share on other sites
Allistah
Yeah, I think miniPCI is miniPCI, just like PCI is PCI. If your machine can accept a PCI card, pretty much any PCI card will work. I think it's the same thing for miniPCI. I think! Not 100% positive though but I think it should just work.
