flicman
I know it's a dinosaur, but since OSX ran on 1st-gen Minis, I figure I've got a shot of at least getting it working. I've got this Inspiron 4150 (P4-M @ 1.8GHz, ATI Radeon 7500 w/32MB, 640MB RAM) that seems ripe and runs Ubuntu 7.10 beautifully, so here we go. I have a copy of the ToH RC2 release, so that's a good thing. I do not have a Mac. Initially, I get an error about "System Config File '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found" so I came here, did some searching, and tried the -x switch. That rewarded me with lines and lines of fast-scrolling text that looked like files being unpacked/loaded prior to actual installation. Golden, right? Unfortunately, after a couple minutes of this, the system just rebooted. So I came back here. A few searches later, I've tried the -v switch to see if I can get more info. I've tried loading a different .plist file (I don't remember why I tried that now, just that it didn't work), and I've tried using the on-disk help (it doesn't do anything). As a side note, I tried the install process on a different laptop that was even older than the one I'm hoping to use and got the exact same result. I don't know what that tells me, but Celeron 1.1GHz or P4-M 1.8GHZ both look the same, error-wise. Now I'm that guy that registers to ask a question that's yet to be answered. Throughout the forums, I can see that people are having this problem, although it seems to be weirdly articulated. I don't know why that is, but I'm having a shot at articulating the problem myself, so maybe those with this same issue can finally have someplace to come to get it solved. This site is such a rich vein of information, I'm sure the answer is here somewhere. So, to reiterate: during the install process, the computer restarts after a few moments of unpacking files. No prompt, no beep, just a restart. Then it does it again. This is not: a "failed to boot" problem. The OS is not installed, so that problem will have to wait. This is not: a "vanilla" kernel. I simply found and downloaded the RC2 ToH Leopard DVD. I appreciate any pointers towards resolving this problem, including (but certainly not limited to) conversation about how much Leopard will suck on my hardware of choice. Maybe it won't work at all, but maybe it will. Since there are no matches for "Inspiron 4150" on the Leopard board at all, I figure that's likely an issue, but you never know. Maybe there's a switch I haven't tried or a build I haven't found. I believe P4-M supports SSE2 (I know it doesn't support SSE3), so that should be fine. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you can push my way. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/73739-install-reboot-loop/ Share on other sites

virut
I've got the same problem.. Mine is Leo4AllV2 DVD. It's said because of the kernel? and another one said SSE2 doesn't support EFI? zeamp
I think it has to do with the FSB on older machines. JaS is currently testing a 10.5.3 DVD which will fix all your old computer reboot issues (SSE2). Stay tuned. I've used my copy of the disc to install on an asus P4p800s-x with no problems. I then tried on an asus p4p800-mx, and kept getting the same reboot loop as you guys. I then tried with a p4p800e Deluxe, same problem. I started looking at the chipsets and the 800s-x had and intel 848p mch and intel ICH5 and the 800-mx has the 865gv and intel ich chipset. In my attempts to find a solution, I read in one post someone saying something about the ide controler being a problem. This I can believe. There has to be a solution somewhere.... I'm using the JaS 10.5.4 Client/Server SSE2/3 install DVD and I've got this reboot issue on my SSE2 Compaq EVO n610c laptop. I can boot the DVD perfectly, install perfectly, but upon initial reboot it loops almost instantly, within seconds, so that a never even see the verbose lines, it just restarts over & over again. I've tried different kernels, different video, etc., all with same results.
