  1. Why are permissions for installed kexts set to allow execution? This seems like the introduction of a huge security hole. For example, I just installed System.kext, and then ran Disk Utility immediately afterwards. Kext Wizard says it repairs permissions during installation, but every file and folder within the installed kext is set to allow execution: Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/AppleNMI.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/AppleNMI.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/ApplePlatformFamily.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/ApplePlatformFamily.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/BSDKernel.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/BSDKernel.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IOKit.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IOKit.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IONVRAMFamily.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IONVRAMFamily.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IOSystemManagement.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/IOSystemManagement.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Libkern.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Libkern.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/MACFramework.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/MACFramework.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Mach.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Mach.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Private.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Private.kext/Info.plist”Permissions differ on “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Info.plist”; should be -rw-r--r-- ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/PlugIns/Unsupported.kext/Info.plist”
  2. I've had good success using the MLPostFactor 32-bit Mt. Lion installer on hackintosh laptops that lack 64-bit video cards. For example, a Dell Inspiron 1525 with X3100 GPU runs 10.8.5 with full QE/CI via an MLPostFactor installation which uses a modified 32-bit Mt. Lion Dev.Preview kernel. What I'd like to do is use MLPostFactor's 32-bit Mt.Lion installation on an Atom-based netbook, specifically an MSI U100 with Atom N170 CPU. I've been able to get the installer to start, but I think the problem is that the mach_kernel isn't patched for Atom, and all the Atom patched Mt.Lion kernels are 64-bit only. My question: How can I patch the MLPostFactor 32-bit Mt. Lion mach_kernel to support the Atom N170 CPU? This is a big deal, it would enable Atom netbooks to jump from 10.6.8 straight across to 10.8.5 with QE/CI acceleration for older GPUs like the GMA950 or X3100.
  3. 10.7.5 on Dell 1525

@Husaber I did download your MacBook Pro 6.1 smbios.plist and is seemed to work better, although I did change the RAM to match my specific RAM . . . BUT . . . on the 2nd day, after about 4 or 5 hours use, I got a FREEZE. I rebooted, and within 10-15 minutes I got another freeze. Your smbios.plist was installed correctly with correct permissions, and it's loaded. I'd also done a Safe Boot and normal Restart to be certain I had fresh caches, so I'm pretty certain that while your smbios.plist is better than the one I was using (it was from iATKOS and was a desktop Mac Pro 3.1) but I've still got random freeze issues. My thoughts are to use the older 10.5.8 x3100 framebuffer kext, and I'm also using the NullCPUPowerManagement.kext which I should probably try to wean off of and get power management working. Here's my Terminal>kextstat for my Inspiron 1525 w/10.7.5. If anyone has a better working Inspiron 1525 and is using DIFFERENT kext versions than mine, please tell me which kexts are different, which version you're using, and if the kext is in S/L/E or E/E folder. 4. 10.7.5 on Dell 1525

I deleted the two plugins within the AppleGraphicsControl.kext, these were AppleMuxControl.kext & ApplePolicyControl.kext. After deleting, I did a Safe Boot to clear the kextcache, and rebooted normally. All was fine for several hours, but then I got another random freeze where the cursor was live & active, but the rest of the screen was frozen solid. I had to force restart. I don't believe removal of these plugins has anything to do with the random freeze issue on the X3100. Others have said it's a problem with the frame buffer, and using an older 10.5.8 version of the X3100 FB kext can solve the problem. That's my next try for solving the random freeze issue. I'll probably add these two kexts back, one was loaded before, so it must do something.
  5. The QUO website is terrible. If you've worked all these months on the custom BIOS, please please include the ability to boot in Target Disk Mode like real Macs. This is one of the very best ideas that Apple ever implemented. The lack of Target Disk Mode is a huge hassle on all hackintosh, so PLEASE write Target Disk Mode boot into your custom BIOS. If you do, you'll sell 10x more of these motherboards.
  6. Intel 855GM QE/CI Graphics in Snow Leopard

How did you install 10.6.8 onto ICH4 hardware? What install method or distro, and upgrade method? I get panics with ICH4 ATA/PCI kexts, and seemingly need to downgrade to something earlier? Could you post a Terminal>kextstat output for your booted system, or a System Profiler saved output showing loaded Extensions? I'm struggling with ICH4, can't get a bootable system up.
  7. how can i check if dsdt loaded

When your custom DSDT is loaded into RAM, then if you use DSDTSE to "extract" the DSDT it only reads the RAM loaded DSDT, and NOT the resident BIOS DSDT. So you can check which DSDT is loaded by using DSDTSE to extract what's being used and "see" if it's your edited custom patched version or the OEM BIOS version. This is why you must be sure you're booting without any DSDT file to extract a clean unadulterated BIOS DSDT. You can use DSDTSE to extract this clean BIOS only if you're booting WITHOUT any custom DSDT.aml file. Since most Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mt. Lion require a patched DSDT.aml file to boot, the only way to get the clean BIOS version is to either boot Leopard 10.5 without any DSDT.aml and extract using DSDTSE, or boot an Ubuntu live CD and extract the DSDT from BIOS using Terminal commands.
  8. Chameleon Wizard - Utility for Chameleon.

I need a 10.5 version of Chameleon Wizard.
  9. Hazard 10.6.6i is "Intel only" hence the "i" at the end. To install onto an AMD box you'll need Hazard 10.6.1/10.6.2 SSE2/3 AMD installer disc. I had this same motherboard and was able to update to 10.6.8, but it's difficult, and the onboard graphics don't support acceleration of Quartz Extreme & Core Image/Animation so you'd really want a PCIe graphics card that works in OS X.
  10. Wireless - AR9280

The iMac Wi-Fi Update for 10.7.3 of Feb.2012 contains a plugin kext for the IO80211Family called AirportAtheros40 which is the correct driver for the AR9280. You may need to add your specific ID# to the info.plist, as is it only supports IDs Vendor ID 0x168c (Atheros) with Product IDs 0x0030 & 0x002a. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1501
  11. MSI Wind u100 Webcam Solution

The script idea for using CamTwist to enable FaceTime & Photo Booth works for me with OEM BisonCam v0.03 firmware, BUT, when a call is dropped, or ended normally in FaceTime I get a system freeze where I've got a working cursor but nothing responds and I can't even Force Quit anything, I'm forced to hard reboot. I also need to have Voodoo HDA Helper (voodoohdahelper) working so that the internal microphone is working prior to launching FaceTime. I see nothing in the Console logs that might help with the cause of the freeze, but rebooting is a high price for a dropped or ended FaceTime call. Any ideas on a solution?
  12. Chameleon Wizard - Utility for Chameleon.

I've got Lion 10.7.3 on a GUID HD of a laptop. I messed up installing Win7 onto a partition, and left the HD unbootable. I assumed I could simply reinstall Chameleon via Chameleon Wizard while booted from the iPC 10.5.6 Live DVD, but under 10.5.6 Chameleon Wizard has a "slash" through it and is dimmed, so it won't run in Leopard. It would sure help if you could make Chameleon Wizard run in Leopard. Also, the latest separate Chameleon installer packages won't install with Leopard's Installer.app on iPC Live DVD, while older versions of Chameleon packages work fine, so the packages themselves aren't Leopard compatible.

  14. AMD - kernel_task Issue

I have an AMD desktop with 10.6.6 that's running kernel_task at around 15%, and deleting the AppleACPIButtons.kext didn't do anything for me.
